  1. So yeah, kinda goofy that you never get a proper tutorial with the Mako. It has a second weapon, which is kind of the primary weapon really. Helps you take down Thresher Maws and Geth Colossi much quicker. It has a boost and a jump too.

BTW, you may not have picked up on it but those Codex entries you read actually covered all 3 possible backgrounds for Shepard. Sole survivor was on Akuze and survived the thresher maws, war hero was a leader at Elysium during the Skyllian Blitz, and the ruthless background earns you the nickname "Butcher of Torfan" because your Shepard lead the raid and apparently kicked a lot of batarian ass.

  2. 13:54 AI research wasn't illegal in those days anyway – AI research was made illegal after the Geth rebelled to prevent something like that from happening again.

PS: The Mako has more than just the machine gun, it also has a large cannon.

  3. HAHAHA – what a great first meeting of a Thresher Maw – that was priceless. Space be scary.

Your Edolus expedition brings up a good point – you can land on a ton of planets which may have quests, enemies and loot, and/or collectables. Plenty to explore, and the Mako is pretty sick once you get the hang of it.

Yeah the Krogans are OP – that's why they (and Wrex) have the reputation they do. They are built like a tank and evolved extra hearts, lungs, and other organs for redundancy.

1:26:24 – yeah there's tension – keep talking to both of em a lot and it'll make sense

Dammit, I'm gonna have to install this again for yet another playthrough XD
    Cheers

  4. When you're in the Mako, don't forget you have 2 weapons: the machine gun (which you've been using!) and a cannon that does massive damage.

Playing with a controller, I believe it's the RB button above the trigger.

  5. A tip, some asteroid field have hidden stuff in them, when you hover the cursor over such object a similar ping to when you select planet happens.

This is important info! You can talk to Admiral Kahoku, but don't do his mission until you are done with Noveria.

Also, on Noveria it's important that you take Liara in your squad.

  6. It looks like you are enjoying yourself. That’s good, I always have so much fun when I am playing this series

Mass Effect has some RPG elements to it…but in combat, think of it as a “strategic shooter” and not a straight up shooter. There is a reason the action pauses and you can pan the battle field when you bring up the power wheel. Different guns will suit different situations, but the powers are the ones that give you an edge in battle. Keep experimenting and learn more about them. If you do that you will find yourself in control of the battlefield. You can also direct your squad mates powers as well, give it a try. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll let you keep learning. But I will say that just as different guns are best suited for different situations so it is with your squad mates.

Thanks for the vid, as always very entertaining and enjoyable!!

  7. Definitely keep talking to Wrex and Garrus for unlocking side-quests related to both of their character arcs (Garrus’ cowboy cop tendencies and Wrex’s attitudes about his people and what he can do for them/the genophage). Doing them helps deepen your relationship with them

  8. You can heal your squad in combat by using the triangle button it uses up a medigel so when the red line under a squad member gets low it is advisable to hit the triangle.

  9. Congratulations for finding your first Thresher Maw XD A little sidenote, since the Codex entry talks about Akuze. That's where you were stationed, so you were part of that platoon that encountered the Thresher Maws for the very first time by humanity. As you know, that meet-up didn't go particularly well.

    Planets

You can actually land on several of those planets and many planets you can survey. Sometimes it's because of a mission you picked up somewhere, but there are also missions to be found when you land on those planets. Some don't really have missions, but they still provide new insights and interesting tidbits of information that you can bring with you as you progress through the game. On a lot of planets you can also find collectables, like Salarian dog tags, Asari writings and so on. While they don't seem to do anything in ME1, at least the Asari writings will carry over to the next games where they play a tiny role. The minerals, however, will definitely carry over to Mass Effect 2 (as a relative amount, not everything) since you will actually make use of the minerals there and they want to reward you for going out of your way to hunt the minerals down.
So you don't have to scour the universe to collect all that, but they do have some effect and influence on future games.

One more thing: asteroid belts sometimes hold some secrets, but you won't know they're there unless you hover your cursor over the entire span of the belt. There's at least one mission where you're supposed to find the location within an asteroid belt that you may not notice just by looking at it.

    Probe / Electronic skill

When it says your Electronic skill is too low, it means none of your squadmates you brought along with you have a sufficient high Electronic skill level. You'll have to update their skill level by going into the Squad-screen and assign points to it. Based on your videos so far and the consistently highlighted Squad-screen, it looks like you haven't invested any points so far in anything after Eden Prime. If you did, you may want to show that you do level them up, so we can get a grasp at why you fail something, otherwise you'll get the standard comments that won't help you any further.

In general, Tali can be very proficient in Electronics and Decryption, whereas with Garrus you're required to unlock the Electronic skill first by leveling another skill up to a certain point. It does mean that if you want to make sure you can salvage all that stuff, you'll need to bring either of those two with you.

    Liara

Now that you've recruited Liara, you may want to bring her with you when you go to Noveria. Shortly after docking and before entering the facility she'll have some unique dialogue, so you can swap her out after that (the ship is about a 30 second walk from there) if you prefer to bring someone else instead, but I figured I could point that out to you so you don't miss out on that.

    Disconnect

Sure you can just hang up on the Council, but there's a reason why it's the lowest option 😉

  10. The Quarians consider human children a valuable resource for the flotilla. They roll them in a special spice blend then cook them on an open spit. Their species considers them a rare culinary treat.
