More About “Jettison”:
Rebka, a restless young farm girl, joins the military in order to get off earth and see the stars. However due to the effects of time dilation caused by their rapid space travel, she and her fellow soldiers slowly lose touch with their friends and family back home. Rebka has a daughter with another solider, but is forced to give up the child to rejoin the war and complete her tour of duty. By the time she is able to return to Earth, she finds out from a distant descendant that her daughter is long-dead. Realizing there is nothing for her on Earth, Rebka rejoins the war, alone and unmoored from any traces of her former life.

  1. Hey y'all! This is JJ Pollack, I wrote, directed & edited Jettison. Been watching DUST ever since it started, so pretty stoked to be premiering my film here! Would love to hear any comments or answer any questions you guys have (first one to ask why it's in black and white gets a gift card to Applebees!!!)

  3. That was an excellent story, as a former trucker I related in some ways to missing out on my families home life. I, however chose to be home to guide my children's development rather than just sending money home. Good luck and will look for more from you in the future. Be well.

  4. You don't have to go away into space to get there. Any totally unknown place of horrors will do. No one will recognize you if you get back because you will so no longer be the person who left them behind. Yet space is a fine device for painting it so well. Hoorah!

  5. Congratulations JJ Pollack. It is yours the ability to make the old new. What tremendous magic and irony that this capacity is projected in black and white, which, although it surprised me at first, seems to me an absolute success. The dialogues and their silences have an unusual quality, as if written by Cormac McCarthy. That first image of the moon, already colonized by man, or the different worlds to which our protagonists are propelled are absolutely sober and shocking and watched as in any space exploration by beings from another world or from this one. It reminds me of the amazing work on Erik Wernquist's Wanderers. The sense of duty across space and time with the sacrifice it entails is heartbreaking. It is a diamond in the rough which has as many prisms and details of absolute genius in the creation and perspective of the short film as the scene of the cosmic show reflected in the eye of the sergeant. The performances are memorable. The sound and special effects are noteworthy. This absolute masterpiece, Jettison, sacrificed our imaginative cargo in deep space. Thank you all so very much for sharing.

The desire to look with different eyes implies traveling leaving behind luggage and stripping one's own gaze to dress it in someone else's clothing, seeing the horizon from the other shore and thinking about the world with another heart.

  6. Very, very clever made scifi short! And I`m a fan of black/white anyway (and saves lot of post prod time). What I`ve really learned in this story: A technology-standard in the future don`t need to be explained. It just has to be clever integrated in the plot as it`s a matter of course. Also clever: Just implied alien-enemy none CG created. Ther is no need because the attention goes to the fate of the main actor.
The casting is also very professional. Congrats to this film, and thank`s for sharing.
