A mysterious sex box, a 150 year long dream, and so many time loops. These sci-fi movies still have audiences scratching their heads.

I can't believe yall didn't mention the movie "John dies in the end" or "mr.nobody"😮💨
AI was not a happy ending. It was disturbing I saw it at the cinema and remember coming out with a friend and we couldn’t quite put our finger on it initially but we both sat having a drink after and couldn’t actually discuss the movie properly as were digesting it still.
Ex Machina: a woman's nature. She kills (divorce) the man that gave her everything and craps on the nice guy
Nice Movies !🤠👍
All my favorite movies are on this list! ☺️
I felt the exact opposite about tenet. I felt that they spent too much time focusing on trying to explain the concept rather than developing a strong story line with developed characters that I am interested in. I get the idea, you don't have to force it down my throat again and again. A great concept poorly executed.
You forgot Jupiter Ascending, as people still don't understand why that movie was made in the first place.
Ex Machina. I don’t think EVA kills Caleb because *reasons*, I just think the point here is that EVA is a machine with no feelings. Just make the next move in the most productive way. No feelings or sentiments at all.
Really enjoyed vanilla sky
I'd read The Roadside Picnic and then chased down Tarkovsky's movie, Stalker. It wasn't supernatural as described here. Imagine a few space ships who stop on earth for a roadside picnic then take off again on their journey. Where they stop they drop things – the alien equivalent of a thermos flask and dead batteries from a radio and perhaps a tupperware container or two. The area they stop in is also 'contaminated' by their presence and mysterious things happen there such as the place where dreams are answered. The govt seals it off but some people sneak past – they are called Stalkers. But being in the area causes changes in their DNA. The stalker's daughter was born after he got affected and her abilities are the result of her changed DNA.
The movie is dreamily slow and unfortunately low budget so a lot of the 'alien science' stuff is shown as if it's just an overgrown swampy jungle with dangerous consequences.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was such a fantastic movie! So very well written, performed, filmed… God,….such a great movie!
I actually saw a preview about the movie that Doe and Jane/John were in.
The 2001 needs to have subtitles to the book because it doesn't make sense if you haven't read it. 2010 was a good sequel though.
A list so true, almost nobody is adding or subtracting from. I refuse to believe we can't make movies this compelling again. It's all about blockbusters now.
What movie in the thumbnail?
Honestly, the endless was garbage. I’m sorry.
Seemed like you understood Ex Machina pretty well.
Great list. Thanx so much.
“Casual loops” lol. I think you mean “causal”.
Donnie Darko was a film I watched about 20 years ago and I never understood the meaning behind it. The drugs probably didn't help, however in hindsight, they only made this boring movie bearable.
Ummm…what people?
Casual movie-goers will never have heard of a film like Primer or Coherence, much less Beyond the Black Rainbow.
And for those well-familiar w/ such films, there are plenty of forums that discuss them in able for discerning viewers to get a clearer idea of aspects they’re still unsure of.
The only thing confusing about Annihilation is good reviews of it; what a crap film, acted by sleepwalkers and rips off superior film like Stalker.
But 12 Monkeys did explain the ending. I won't spoil it, but it was pretty obvious.
Which movie is the cilckbate from ?
Hahaha this video just recaps the movies but doesn't just fail to explain them, it doesn't even try ?!
IE time travel paradox- you can't change the past on purpose. If you have a specific goal and achieve it than you'd never go back in the first place.
Example – I go back in time to stop a murder..if I stop it then it never happens so I wouldn't have gone back in time in the first place because there's nothing for me to stop. However if I never go back than the murder still happens..so no matter what the murder will ALWAYS happen.
how many folks out there watching this video have seen The Naked Lunch? Or Brazil? both a bit weird but interesting movies
Because of most of these movies and people older than me I knew, I wrote a story in the early 90s titled "Wrong". By the epilogue, you realize the hero you were rooting for was vile, his support was twisted by lies, and the villain you grew to hate was the hero.
Predestination was a total horror movie, really messed up my head, couldn't watch it again.
I would say, M.Night Shyamalan 's "IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS" is the greatest sci-fi movie ever.

– Can you sum up the movie "Predestination" ?
– Yes. Go fµck yourself.
I loved Vanilla Sky.. Its a movie I go back to every now and again.. I watched it so many times and the ending always gets me every single time..
In 12 monkeys the last thing we see is one of the scientist from the future sitting next to the guy in question, who releases the virus, on a plane. From this, we can infer the future scientists, living underground, got their hands on a sample of the pure virus for research purposes back in the future. While they did not stop the release of the virus, altering history, the Implication is they would be able to save themselves, and humanity in the future. So while its a sad ending for our characters and humanity of the 90's, for humanity in the future its a very happy one. Technically, Bruce Willis gave his life… but completed the mission
I wish this list wasn't so spoilery
I haven't seen the last one (eternal sunshine….) but given your description, I'm not sure it's about "endless love" and more about the procedure failing and them being left with a residual memory that they feel compelled to explore.
Massive Sci-Fi nerd. Everything from the 50's to present day both TV and Film. The stories, the effects and trivia. But I am always baffled by how many put 2001 as the best sci-fi film ever. Yep, it has some ground breaking and beautiful shots, but I find it slow and boring and when even the director does not know what the ending means then you know you are in trouble.
Ex Machina – Ava may not have feelings, and killing Kaleb means leaving no witnesses. There is nothing that says Ava has to have a sense of gratitude or make friends.
"Casual loops" haha nice typo/misread!
AI was a very good movie, brought tears to my young eyes and that is a movie that was done very well acting and directing , done so well, that I felt that way for a robot.
That scene in Vanilla Sky ❤
Ai was Pinocchio but with robots
Ali: It doesn't seem it will finish, they are still coming, let's go over them.
Murat: That's what suit us, we must go beyond the space speed, be ready to welcome arrivers.
Ali: These are too ugly, it would be better if some girls come with mini skirts.
😆
How can we know what happened to Dave…It's not like there's a BOOK we can READ. Oh wait.
12 monkeys is clear, they cannot change the past or have no intention of changing the past. They just need to trace the source of the virus to save the “present”.
Solaris ? ( The original )
Do you like it when an ending is left open, or do you prefer clear cut explanations?
music please in the beginning?
People don't understand these movies? Most of these are pretty self-explanatory.
