Salon Day for the Doggies

Today was our first groom or salon day so to speak with our new friend Maxine at Grubby Paws Dog Grooming. Maxine is helping us out once a week by giving the pack a wash and blow dry, ear clean and nail trim. Today was Chance, Lily, Shadow, Barney and Rover’s turn.

The plan is that when all the doggies are familiar with Maxine and the bath day, we and the pack can continue our day whilst one at a time a half a dozen or so dog get their salon time to keep their hair and skin healthy.

Maxine is a lovely person, with several adopted dogs herself. Once a vet nurse, also worked with horses, she now pampers pooches. We were lucky to get a spot each week, groomers like many locations are booked out for months. Maxine has just made the sea change from Sydney to the Coast. All the doggies really loved Maxine, they were on their best behaviour.

Chance loved his pamper session and was particularly adorable sporting the happy hoodie at blow dry time. Lily who is Luke’s shadow just didn’t want him out of her sight. Shadow was the goodest girl as expected. Barney boy was so relaxed he let one rip. Definitely feel that’s a high compliment to Maxine’s work. And dear Rover who patiently or perhaps impatiently wanted a go himself the whole time. He got the extra peppermint cologne at the end. He can smell a little wee like with his incontinence, thanks Maxine.

The dogs felt great, they looked amazing.

After our pamper morning, we headed off on a bush walk, picnic lunch and then a swim in the pool.

Diesel is doing well. He still has some moments. You can see he has a go at Shadow at the picnic. No contact, nothing major. He just needs to decompress, training and some time to socialise. His interactions are limited at this time because he is preferring to run off after the birds. Not sure if anyone remembers from the shelter video of him acting strangely at the wall. Thought was it might have been the puppies on the other side. Luke was a little worried it was something else. There does seem to be something else going on as he is doing it here at the farm at any wall. Luke talks about some other observations about his unique behaviour.

We answer some questions from one of our followers about Barney and Rover’s incontinence.

It’s been quite hot here, the water truck makes a few deliveries today to fill up the tank and the pools.

We’ve received a few messages asking about some YouTube channels like β€œBarney, Maggie and Hope the Boxers” and β€œCutie Pie the Pug” … I just wanted to let everyone know it is us, but we just haven’t officially launched them yet, Ben is putting them together for us behind the scenes. There’s one for each of the farm pack members. Ben is loading all their stories so far, then we will start posting new content. They’re just not ready yet, but some people have been worried they’re not us. So thank you to those who have contacted us in concern.

This is an extra extra long video. We understand it’s not something everyone can watch all the way through. It was a big day. But for those that do watch a little or a lot, we appreciate whatever you can manage. Thank you.

  1. Wow! So much great stuff in this vid! First, welcome to the Farm, Maxine! She seems to have the magic touch with all those expertly trained Farm dogs! Each one enjoyed their special spa day! I love that the other doggos wanted to spend time in her mobile shop. They really do love being with each other, and seemed to take to Maxine very quickly! Second, loved watching Sheriff Freddo running the fence, with a keen eye on that water truck while at the Farm. Sheriff Freddo is on his game! ☺Third, I appreciated the picnic chat about the dogs with incontinence issues. Personally, I have no problem hearing about these kinds of details (I also didn't mind the photos of Rover's surgical stuff. I have an iron stomach! πŸ˜‚) It all gives me a broader picture of their issues and more of an understanding of their treatment options. I have to say, I did find it funny that, at the beautiful picnic lunch (which looked delicious, btw!), Aunty Sam asks Luke the question about fecal incontinence right as Luke scarfs a mouthful of food! πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ I may be the only one who thought that was kinda funny. Like, we're out on this sunny day…with a delicious picnic lunch…let's talk about poop! But seriously, I know it's totally second nature to you guys. And I really DID appreciate the member's question and the detailed answer. You learn something new every day on this channel! ❀❀❀

  2. Chance in the snood didn't help his tough guy image, lol. He looked pretty worried. All the dogs were worried about Chance, especially Maggie. She loves Chance. I think all the doggies enjoyed their bath and blow dry. I bet they smelled pretty.

  3. We had a grouchy old girl that was so afraid of fireworks, thunder and a terrifying earthquake we had in Alaska (7.2) but she heard the hair dryer and she’d come running. She loved it. Cushings cancer took her last summer at age 14. She was a sweetheart.

  8. Diesal possibly has OCD brought on maybe by continued under stimulation. It's a thought anyway. Hopefully all will be sorted and have a positive outcome for him. He does have a weird tail though lol ❀️

  9. Most women carry a purse with lipstick etc…but I love Sam and the ever present seemingly bottomless little pouch of dog goodies strapped to her waist πŸ™‚

  10. I've got a question Sam, are the 4 dogs still going to the holistic Dr each week? It was fascinating to me to watch the treatment πŸ˜‚ I thought maybe they weren't going because of the holidays 😊

  11. Funny that Luke should mention he thinks he might be seeing a neurological issue with Diesel, because while watching Diesel run I thought his gait looked a bit wonky. Can't put my finger on what it is that made me think it, but when Luke expressed his observation, I wasn't surprised because I thought I saw something, too.

  12. Chance is not a great water baby he likes jumping for the toys but never follows them into the pool. He is such a honey and I love the way he splits his affection 50 50 between Sam and Luke it is the cutest thing ever.

We love this channel but some of us cannot afford to send money contributions to help buy dog food, meds etc. We can play a big role in the rescue efforts by simply letting the commercials play in their entirety. While some are long, those are the ones that donate the most for us who lack funds to send. Small way to help but a big impact!

  14. Sam, that was funny: "Better work on that recall." I have a feeling Wolfie will be harder to train than the pups in that regard. Lily looks so much smaller with all that fur gone! All the doggies who got a bath look wonderful.

  15. Have a question for Luke when he's not so busy (he is busy every day I know!!!). I have a 10 month old lab mix puppy that almost drowned when she was only weeks old, I was told about this, before I got her at 10 1/2 weeks. I do believe I was led by HIM to get her as well as years earlier another dog with problems. The older she's getting, the more I can see things that aren't right with her. She will stare at me like she doesn't know me. It takes a lot of coaxing to have her come to me and then she knows me after a bit. It's like she resets every morning. I've trained her enough when I say good dog in a command voice and then good dog with praise voice when she does jump on me but she still forgets a lot. I have to retrain her all of the time. She's smart and can see well, just things aren't getting through to her brain I don't think. I live in the boonies and don't have a vehicle to go anywhere and the vet is quite far away. I just called to get her spayed and have to wait at least two months for the surgery. It's a small town where vet is and I don't understand the waiting. Then someone will have to take me to the vet. I am hoping that when she is spayed she will be able to listen a bit more. I am crippled with arthritis all through my body so when she jumps on me it really hurts. I can't stand for more than a moment and have to sit. Not saying this for sympathy but to show how limited I am. If she will never get better that's okay because she is in her forever home. Am writing to see if there is anything that I can do in my home to get through to her about her jumping, Thanks, Prayers and Blessings.

  16. Yay for spa days for the furbabies! Glad to hear Diesel's problem is being noticed and seen to, and his unfortunate moment with Shadow ended quickly without contact. Dunno how you'll convince him Shadow's birds are friends for conversation and play, not food, and that he needs to share time. But that's part of the magic of the pack and Farm training.
Shadow, Barney, Lily, Chance and Rover – you were all so well mannered and looked fantastic when you got done!
Woohoo, Maggie, great job! You'll get there, sweetie.
Violet, looks like you may need the swim vest for a bit again, just to be on the safe side. You and Red did a great job supporting the others while they got their spa time today.
Wolfie, your walking is looking very strong. Well done!
Maxine, you were marvelous! Luke and Sam and the pack are lucky to have you on board, as it were.
Luke, good idea, sticking close and only doing five per day. When's the next weekly holistic appointment?
Sam, even with the fur babies behaving beautifully, the close quarters filming and excellent intervewing were a challenge, but it was brilliant.
Kris, outstanding picnic! Also, it was great to see sweet Freddie getting in a Farm day and playing with Rosco.
    Bright blessings, all.

  17. If you hit a wall with allergic skin dermatisis, have had several dogs with severe problems at times of the year with various grasses, and finally my vet prescribed Apoquel tablets manufactured by Zoetis. It has been magical for them.

  18. The puppy parlour was heaven for the doggies. You could tell they all felt special but Chancey boy was like I’m blessed to now have this life. Rover was like I’m moving in here permanently, I’ll show you how important I am in this pack ❀️❀️🐾🐾
