Safety First! GCFI Extension Cord to the Rescue

The jobsite is wet, with mud and puddles of water – and you need to operate your power tools to get the job done. There’s not a GFCI circuit to plug into. NO PROBLEM. wattswire.com/DFJ

When working in wet or moist conditions, or out in the open on bare ground, the risk of shock or electrocution due to a faulty ground circuit in your tools or power supply cord is a very real risk.

While jobsite code pertaining to temporary power supply boxes while construction is underway requires GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interruption) outlets, there can be lapses. Or, if working at an existing business or home site, no such circuit may be where you are.

At times like this, it’s easy to fall into the temptation to simply use your usual cord and get to work. Don’t do it! There is a better and MUCH SAFER way!

Watts Wire® offers a suite of GFCI extension cords. We made use of the 3’ (91cm) multi-outlet lighted power cord. The unit is very well made with heavy-duty double-jacketed yellow cordage, robust semi-translucent plug ends, and a beefy set/reset control box.

The cord strain protectors are very nice, and the cordage is rated for 15 amps, 125 volts, and 1875 watts. While there are three outlets on the end of the cord, you need to keep in mind that the COMBINED power draw must not exceed the rating of the cord.

A feature of ALL the Watts Wire® GCGI extension cords we REALLY like is the triple tap end with the three plugs angled slightly away from each other. This allows you to use bulky plugs without them colliding with each other. GREAT feature!

After seeing the quality of these products, we can see why Watts Wire® doesn’t hesitate to provide a 3-year warranty against all manufacturing defects. If there is a defect in the warranty period, they’ll replace your cord free of charge. Nice.

  1. Smaller than any I have used. Makes it much easier to carry around. Hate the size of most. I really hate the ones that trip all the time. Never know if there is a problem with the unit or the appliance. Plugging the tool or appliance into another gfci and it never trips. Don't know if it is overly sensitive or faulty. I tend to lend those out.
