  1. If you like Joshs yodeling you should react to Heat Above. I believe the strings you hear is Sammy on the keyboard.

The song "Sacred The Thread" by Greta Van Fleet is an ode to the power of creativity and self-expression. The lyrics narrate how music and art can be a healing force that uplifts and resonates with people, bringing them together and creating positive change in the world.
In the verses, the singer describes the euphoria of inspiration and the transformative effect it has on the individual. The reference to "sequins tripping on the light" and "colors, gems, and trim" suggests the dazzling and multifaceted nature of creative expression. The lines "I feel it hugging me so tight" and "The glow that was once dim" convey the emotional impact of art and how it can help people overcome pain and suffering.
The chorus emphasizes the uplifting power of music to bring people together. The line "Like freedom sewn" implies that artistic expression is a form of liberation and that it has the potential to inspire and motivate change. The repetition of "Sacred the thread" emphasizes the sacredness of the creative process and how it connects us all.
In the bridge, the singer's vocalizations suggest the transcendental and ethereal nature of the creative process – how it can transport us to another place beyond words and logic.
Overall, "Sacred The Thread" celebrates the transformative power of creativity and its ability to connect people and heal wounds.

  2. Truthfully I wasn’t a fan of this song at first, but the more and more I listened to it, the more I started to like it. Now it’s my favorite on this album. I just like the emphasis on the main chorus and the vocals are just really strong in this one. This was actually the second single released after Meeting the Master and we had to wait for the other two. So I feel like I had a lot of time to marinate with this song and it grew on me a lot. Second favorite is the Archer. That one I think you’ll really like.

  3. At some point go watch the live performance of this song on GVF's YouTube channel. Jake and Josh often do synchronized guitar/vocal wails live, and the ones on Sacred the Thread and Farewell for Now are jaw-dropping. It's crazy how this band is consistently better live than on the records.

  4. My thought on this song as in terms of the album is that it's part of the lie the Archer holds from The Falling Sky… That this uniform or outfit is special/ makes you better. But in terms of a stand alone song it jams as a song to feel yourself when looking good.

  5. One of the reasons I love GVF is their songs are not of the typical hetero crush/love/heartbreak tropes, the messages within them are not strident or rigid so they can be interpreted in multiple ways. Josh often invokes eastern philosophies and various cultural mythologies and archetypes in his lyrics. He has said there's a lot of "lackadaisical spiritualism" in his songs.

"Upanayanam, or the Sacred Thread Ceremony is a Hindu rite of passage which marks the beginning of the acceptance of a student by a guru and an individual’s entrance to a school in Hinduism. Children between eight and sixteen years of age, typically boys, undergo upanayana ceremonies and receive a sacred thread, called janeu, which they must wear for the rest of their lives. Recent revival of the sacred thread ceremony for girls has become a marker of the right to education for women."

But yeah, it's also about his jumpsuits.😅 There's a great post from him on Instagram which shows him sketching one, and it's captioned: "Sacred the thread, darling!" ✨🌠

  6. The A symbol on the flag actually is a combination of the two A’s that are in the album title Starcatcher. If you can find a close up of them, you can see that they each have inside loops that go from different sides, so when combined, they form that A.

  7. I do believe this actually is about his jumpsuits, but now knowing that they mean more to him than just stage costumes digs further into the meaning. He has explained himself that the first time he put on a jumpsuit, he felt a sense of freedom he hadn’t felt before that made it possible for him to go out in front of a crowd of thousands and relax and feel free to lose himself in the give and take of energy to and from the audience. I think it was profound enough that he felt compelled to write this song about it.
