Gamers The Series: The Shadow Menace
Fifteen years after stumbling into our world from the fantasy land of Fartherall, Newmoon, Nimble, Magellan, and Rogar have struggled to adapt to modern life. Guided by the mysterious Professor, a new group of gamers takes control of their destiny and leads them on a new quest to find a portal to return home and defeat their nemesis, The Shadow, once and for all.
The latest entry in the long-running independent franchise, The Gamers, brings back the characters from the original 2002 film that started it all. This time new players take control for lots of classic tabletop gaming action, with a real-world heist twist.

The translation is from the first episode. Weird.
Is there gonna be a pants stealing contest? Love that!
That's a lot of credits.
Well, I did have high hopes for the show.
Boy this has not aged well. I'm still waiting for the reason the gay player is the most over sexualized and gross. Also still waiting for why Brad is even a player. He's rude and dismissive of the DM and his entire group when he does interact with them, but he spends most of his time being completely disconnected from the entire game and doing work on his laptop. Then when he finally does engage (after the DM dropping some very vague comment about things being tough) he goes on some weird speech about the game being on easy mode because all of the characters are white men (despite it being well established that outside of Nimble they've all massively struggled at being even funcitonal in this world) and then massively over plays the character and starts acting very bizarrely and does things that nobody with an active mind would think are acceptable. The tropes for the other two players are pretty bad too, but they're not quite as bizarre as the others.
What are the odds of 3 women and two gay guys at one table?
I love how he has to deal with Rogar low INT stat and throwing the glasses all the time XD
gg no re
Everything must be woke these days?
After watching the first episode for the second time (the first time I was happy to see old faces) and already getting a bad feeling about the new players, this episode confirmed my fears. Boy, those are some obnoxious characters! Especially Rogar and Newmoons new "pilots". Those are the kind of players that made me quit playing with randoms at conventions.
This series has been a part of my life for 20 years. Thanks Matt❤
Great they're back, feels a little more over the top than the originals / movie could be just the dialing in period but I'm definitely sticking around for it.
That banana scene was just gross…
🔥🔥🔥
Ye, this looks like the average derailed campaign alright. 😀
Keep it going.
And for the people bothered by the over sexualization, have you ever played with a bard in the party? lmao
more wokeness than a DNC convention.
12 points uncomfortable guard damage
This sounds like my gaming group, everyone in it is gay and The Bard in the first game I ran ended up becoming the owner of the brothel, The tavern and the mayor. Generally becoming both the man and the head of crime. And having had more sex with more non-player characters than elminster.
Wen episode 3?!
None of the players seem to understand their characters and what their characters are about at all
this had me dying laughing ahahhahaahhahahah
Been a fan and supported ZOE since near the beginning.
This DEI in-your-face mess, the lack of natural camaraderie is …. not my cup of tea.
Why not a 4th season of journey quest, wrap up the storyline and characters?
Passing on this. Will keep an eye out for other projects.
Rogar tossing his glasses away will never get old!
Bravo!
Effin’ fantastic. I didn’t see this coming, but I’m enjoying every minute so far.
the players not enjoying their characters or campaign and the DM not enjoying her players play style really makes it hard to like this instalment of the series.
also cover is for getting hit by projectiles not hiding…. 20% behind a lamp? and even if the people arn't seen, the utility car moving down the hall by itself isn't suspicions at all…. right
Well dang. I'm a bit disappointed in the new player-characters. They are hostile, flippant, and childish. I wish the resources were put towards finishing Journey Quest. Respect to the OGs.
I feel the DM's pain. And suppressed Rage.
The elf hiding logic is the same as toddler hiding logic and I’m here for it!
(Below is a comment reply that I've Copy+Pasted, just to try to get more peoples feedback on the thoughts, as well as hopefully some constructive feedback to ZOE. I've always been a big fan of ZOE, I make it a yearly tradition to re-watch Dorkness Rising on my Birthday as I consider it my favourite movie of all time. And I am overall enjoying this series and do plan to keep watching it, keep up the good work!)

I agree with all the critiques in this comment and the replies made, though I would also note that all these critiques can be equally applied to the cast in Dorkness Rising, which is universally loved.
Considering that, I feel like there's a different/unspoken reason going on as to why there's a disliking towards the newer cast of characters.
Which to be clear, isn't meant to be passive aggressive or accusatory, I'm also feeling a bit uneasy with them. A couple of reasons of which I can try to spitball:
1. It could be that the chaos this time is very sexual in nature opposed to more game or narrative focused like in previous entries (But to also be fair, Dorkness rising had the whole "Not Female" Sorceress deal going on)
2. It seems to largely reflect the culture we see with a lot of modern tables/groups, meanwhile, the older Gamers content was made before a time that player culture was even much of a thing, as such it reflected a much more old-school style of play and atmosphere
3. They're using pre-established characters whom we already have a connection to, and we're watching them be played completely Out Of Character. Which I imagine is an intentional gag/writing choice, but for the viewer watching it can have the effect of watching an old TV show be taken over my new writers ignoring old source material
EDIT
4. In previous entries the actors who played a Tabletop Character were the same actors who played the Roleplayer behind them. In this instance the actors for the Roleplayers are different than the actors for the Characters, which could be creating a whiplash sort of effect, or a disconnect. It might also be the new style just not flowing or jelling as well.

+Also skimming comments beyond the one the above was in response to, I do also suspect a lot of the negative reaction is just politically regressive/exclusionary kneejerking towards anything considered to be DEI. I don't have any issue with the DEI myself and am glad to see more of it. Granted though, as someone who hits all the Historically Approved Demographics (other than Ableism) it also doesn't hit me the same way as it would most of the intended audience. My concerns and sense of hesitation I feel is primarily from a writing/presentation angle, and that for the first time the RPG Dynamic being reflected isn't one which reflects any table I've personally played at (although it does reflect many of the tables out there across the hobby), but it could also be closeted/unconcious kneejerking to the DEI as well, I don't dismiss that possibility.
I am loving this.
I wonder what will happen next. Love it!
I like how the seduction attempt resolved compared to the first reaction of the DM.
A lot of times I have seen GMs absolutely okay with romantic, seduction and sexy themes in their games but dismissing anything queer as impossible or just not acknowledging the attempt at all. It feels good to have her understand there is no true good reason for that, and dealing with it while expressing her level of comfort : rolling eyes at the exaggerated pantomime, having it happen offscreen, but accepting to relate results to the creative idea and good roll.
Putting Woke culture into everything! Missing the old days.
