The RX 7900 XTX has landed in for benchmarking and review and I wanted to focus on one PC game in particular, and that is Call of Duty Warzone 2 (and Modern warefar 2). This game shows big gains wherever I look for the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, especially vs the Nvidia counterparts like the RTX 4080 and 4090. In fact it performs so well in this title that it sometimes comes within a hair of the RTX 4090 at 4K and 1440p, and even beats it at 1080p! Though why is this? And is it a sign of what’s coming for the RX 7900 XTX in other titles? Let’s discuss and go into a deep dive.

Call of Duty is being developed on PlayStation devkit and then ported to PC by one of their companies called Beenox. This could be the reason of why cod works more efficiently on AMD hardware
ever since nvidia started taxing your fps with the sharpening filter, it's been radeon all the way. I like my games sharp, crisp, vibrant. Only sharpen can achieve that. Dlss and fsr is garbage and I never use it.
I think the RX7000 series with its Multi Chip Design (MCD) ….. is seeing a Ryzen 1st Gen launch being a new architecture not being optimised currently …. and in addition, I think it’s also facing an a small Intel Arc …… incomplete design architecture ….. either way I think “Infinity Cache” and MCD are the future of tech. I currently mainly use Nvidia gpus for my gaming rigs,, but also an AMD GPU as well and I’ve actually experienced more issues on Nvidia drivers than AMDs …… everyone’s experience is different but I don’t feel AMD is as bad a many make it out to be.
With 7900 launch, AMD like Nvidia now has become an anticonsumer company, selling products at over priced rates compared to the production and R&D costs. 😪 may be a 7800 XT 16gb for 649 usd MSRP and 3080 ti like performance will be the only redemption for AMD.

When both Nvidia and AMD meet reality of full demand, they drop prices for 4090, 4080 and 7900xtx/xt.

if you play multiplayer games the 7900XTX is a better value as these games don't really use ray tracing, beats 4080 or matches it in most cases.

7900XTX performance is fine for the price, it just isn't what they promised. Had the amd announcement been "4080 performance for 200$ less" everything would have been completely fine 🤦♂️.
Would you have a look at the « DCS World » . Because this game does not use Ray Tracing so far, my guess goes for better perf with the 7900XTX over the 4080.
the answer of the question why amd cards better perform is easy. COD is a big Console Titel and optimized for die new consoles. So and here is the point…all consoles on the Market has AMD only Hardware. Thats the Conclusion why COD perform better on AMD Hardware on PC.

They always overpromise and overhype in their press release statement's They always have. Anyone expecting the 1.5 to 1.7 were naive. It's always happening remember bulldozer lol. Remember GCN architecture but it was still a solid upgrade as was bulldozer. I liked how GCN had built in DVR capabilities that had little if not zero hit on performance which was amazing coming from having to previously use FRAPS. I usually take their graphs with a bucket of salt.
Literally the only game it does well in. Nvidia is completely dominating. I actually think AMD made themselves even less relevant in the GPU market than they were before.

great Review but i think we got currently a Image of this Card with like Edgy Corners but IF AMD delivers we gonna get a smooth Experience if they get to the Point where they new Features actually work. They got something to come to maybe even more outperforme Nvidia.

I think the disappointment in the 7900XTX is curious…the results were obviously cherry-picked but the same can be said for all vendors. Unless I am misremembering the original presentation, AMD said 50-70% better than the 6900XT with some pretty major stipulations: at 4K with FSR enabled. From the reviews I've seen, that isn't far off the mark. I feel like folks just drank the leaky kool-aid and had unrealistic expectations going in. That being said, there are clearly some games that need specific tweaks in the driver (like Forza 5) but based on AMD's track-record with driver optimizations, that's probably only a driver revision or two away.
I also think the often-maligned driver issues are overblown and is a sentiment largely reinforced by many tech reviewers (the vast majority of whom only use the Adobe suite which has long been optimized for Cuda). Regarding those professional applications, that is less on AMD to fix then it is for the application developers themselves; AMD could of course go the nVidia route and send their developers (and a fair amounf of cash) to companies like Adobe to make sure OpenCL is properly supported (or supported at all) but it's not something that can be fixed in a driver. You can also see this evidenced by scientific applications that properly leverage openCL where AMD's traditional focus on raw compute shines.
On a related note regarding drivers, I've run cards from both AMD and nVidia for years and the only issues I've ever encountered are the infrequent blackscreen issues from the 5700XT era that were resolved pretty quickly after that HUB video detailing it was released. I have seen my fair share of driver-induced panics on some games when using both vendors' products in Windows. However, if you flip that script and use Linux for any significant period of time, AMD cards are vastly better supported and generally perform better as a result. Of course, that is really only because AMD open-sourced the drivers eons ago, but I digress.

I have a Vega64 , im basically only playing wz/wz2.0 , they offered me a 3060 for a good price. but when wz2.0 came out my friend tried on his 3060 and I tried on my VEGA i was getting the same or 5-10fps more on the same settings. so VEGA is staying for the moment.

Answer: because this particular game is running an an old-ass engine that RDNA is still optimized for, while Nvidia's tech is all optimized for newer stuff, ignoring the older stuff.

Apex Legends is another game that since driver optimisation by AMD RDNA is significantly faster. For example I have a rx 6900 xt that is about 25% faster than my rtx 3080 at 1440p, these cards should be more like 10% apart going by numbers from other games.
My feeling with games being available on so many platforms we are going to see more optimization on console hardware. Consoles are AMD dominated and when the RDNA 3 consoles come things will get very interesting.

The answer is simple the new consoles use the "AMD RDNA™ Architecture" and the devs have completely tweaked the game for it.
1st Gen product, 1st Gen bugs. I’m happy with what I got but also went into with expectations that might not be perfect. Refresh or next Gen might be a better buy if you picky.

Because…game code runs best when it's made specifically for certain hardware. Nvidia has spent billions giving game development companies early access to their newest hardware and API, which drives game development companies to cater to Nvidia. I mean if you think about it, if you are making games, would you want a big partner or a little partner? One partner offers you free stuff with many benefits (advertising, hardware and API) while the other partner gives you much less and directs you to using open source APIs that require a deeper learning curve.

Yup. I got RDNA 3 specifically to benefit from any optimizations devs make for RDNA 2 on multiplatform titles. And whatever the next gen consoles use in 5 years or so, I'll grab the next architectural generation after that. 🤷🏿♂

Hmm, I feel like I’m not getting the same results as you in MW2. I just built a new rig with a Sapphire reference 7900XTX, a 7900x, a 360mm rad from Corsair, and 64 gigs of ddr5 5600.
Ultra settings 1440p I’m only getting about 160fps avg on the in-game benchmark. I feel like my gameplay was slightly smoother out of the box.
Could I have messed something up to lower my frames, or am I not benchmarking correctly? In-game I float around 185-200fps, but the benchmark seems to rate me much lower
