  4. 10:06 – That is neither an AK-74M, nor an AK-12.

    This is probably the best photo we have to date of an old Soviet AK-74 equipped with an "Obves" modernisation kit, which gives it a folding stock capability and an optics rail (while also downgrading the rear iron sight in the process which sucks when you aren't issued an optic in the first place).

    It's a fairly niche and uncommon variant among Russian AKs. The original info from a couple of years ago when these kits were brand new stated that AKs modernised in this way were meant for border guard units but eventually the rifles found their way to the battlefields of Ukraine.

  5. Imagine the United States is fighting a war for the first month and the 101st and 82nd Divisions and the 173rd Brigade are out of combat effectiveness or wipe out 😮😮

  7. Ukrainian airborne forces or Ukrainian air assault units is like saying the moon is made of cheese. What drop transport do Ukraine have to drop airborne forces or even train them. Or air assault units with no real choppers or training to be air assault.

  14. Excluding conscripts, Russian soldiers are good, the problem lies in the officers.

    When I served in the Russian military I saw many defects:
    * Inter-service rivalry and lack of will to cooperate
    * Prideful officers making bad decisions
    * Corruption in the higher spheres
    * Higher ups applying obsolete tactics, thinking they can apply the same doctrine anywhere.
    * Lack of independence in the lower stratum.
    Among others.

  17. when a u.s. airborne division landed in iraq they asked to have their humvees replaced with bradleys because they kept running over mines and getting killed as a result.
    Basically when airborne lands and the area is secured and theyre not sent back home, theyre given vehicles and become a mechanized division

  21. Western squad: We should consider logistics and standardized ammo within the squad, so everyone uses one type of ammo and perhaps just another for the DMR.
    Ukrainian squad: 3 types of 7.62mm, with completely different length and not compatible. Take it or leave it.
