Russian detainees expose Moscow police officer who tortured them – BBC News

On 6 March, huge anti-war demonstrations across Russia saw more than 5,000 protesters arrested. 29 were taken to Moscow’s Brateyevo Police Station for questioning.

There, an unnamed police officer wearing black subjected at least 11 young women to verbal and physical abuse, often amounting to torture. This included suffocation.

Two of the detainees recorded their ordeals and on release leaked the audio to the press. Despite international outrage and multiple calls for an investigation by a Russian politician, the authorities did not open a criminal case.

In place of one, the victims set out to find the ‘man in black’ themselves. Using a leaked database from a Russian food delivery company called Yandex, archived social media accounts, and old dating profiles, BBC Eye’s new documentary ‘Finding My Torturer’ tells the story of how these young women came together to expose the identity of their torturer and his commanding officer.

  2. That's all WE need is his name. When we put our hands on his shoulder, he'll be surprised. It will be fitting that he will die in such a way. I'm just surprised we haven't gotten to him yet but we are persistent.

  3. American police torture people daily with tasers, to a point where many die. If you want to go further, many get shot and killed by them and no crimes has been committed.

  4. Respect and appreciation for these brave women! This reportage shows us that Russia still has honest and brave people. Unfortunately, the majority are still slaves of scums like those police criminals!

  5. These gals come forward right after the incident…in the west women come forward decades later with vague allegations then want criminal charges with a large civil settlement……

  6. Privacy on the internet is just not a thing, as we have just seen. Also, these guys may not have been punished, but they may not want to attract attention anymore either. So it is a bit more likely they wont reiterate on others. Three, the girl was badass, not confrontational but firm

  10. Ivan looks like a college freshman! This young man didn’t just take it upon himself to torture the protesters. Clearly he was ordered to do so. And his boss didn’t issue the order without approval of his higher-ups. Corruption commission my Aunt Svetlana!
