Russian company S7 Group, owner of S7 Airlines, has acquired the Berdsk Electromechanical Plant (BEMZ). This will allow the firm to produce, test, and certify aircraft parts, as Russia’s civil aviation industry keeps looking for new solutions to bypass the sanctions imposed by Western countries following the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Western sanctions previously denied Iran Air spare parts for their airliners, so they had to jump through hoops to keep their planes even somewhat airworthy, sometimes with catastrophic consequences. As much as Russia are an even worse nation than Iran, the way I see it, we can expect a repeat of history.

They don't have much choice, do they? I guess I would like to see a distinction between sanctions designed to cause inconvenience and loss to the people in power and sanctions that harm or endanger the lives of ordinary people.

They are NEVER going to be allowed to fly outwith the main border of Russia unless its to one of their friendly countries.
There is no way a western country would allow an aircraft like that to overfly or land at one of its airports.
Producing and self-certifying counterfeit parts sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I would not take any chances flying RuSSian airlines because it's only a matter of time before things start going wrong.

So immediately, people are saying, not assuming, actually saying, that components made by S7 aren't going to be any good & accidents will happen.
Well, experts, just look at the B737-Max situation which was totally done by the manufacturer to please an airline not wanting to pay for training.
Then look at the components being put into other Boeing jets made by sub-contractors & tell me that an airline making its own parts & thus, it's own planes wouldn't want them to crash as much as, if not more than just a manufacturing company.
These BS sanctions aren't hurting the country of Russia at all & are only hurting the citizens.
Time for the Muppets to wake up to the reality of the USA trying to rule the world yet again & sadly, there's only one way the USA knows how to do this, so wake sleepy Joe up, wash them kiddies hair & he'll be ready to press the red button

Sanctions only helped countries to develop their own facilities e.g. Pakistan, Iran and North Korea developed their nucs this way. Russia is far ahead than foresaid countries.
I really like flying remote S7 Airlines routes with Microsoft Flight Simulator. Such a shame that Putin screws his own country and aviation industry.
