It's easy to call these ships a failure.
I prefer to think of them as lessons.
They have provided a wealth of information and experience, despite not living up to expectations.
They will play a role in future development of more effective systems, and more realistic expectations.
I spent years as a fitter building the later freedom class lcs ships. It had a lot of potential to be a great ship however a combination of the wrong ship in the wrong time and several engineering failures ended up being the great demise of these ships.

The Independence class looks like a variant of a stealth ship I designed for a high school physics project during my senior year in 1994. It was a SWATH(Small Water plane Area Tri-Hull) and looked very similar, other that it being more of a destroyer size. Wish I could find the disks with the CAD files or even the hand drawn blueprints I did to show people. But it's been 30 years now lol
Where do the "retired" ships go ? Look Up : US NAVY RESERVE FLEET. There are anchorages at Suisin Bay in California; James River in Virginia, and Beaumont, Texas.

Half a billion dollars for a naval warship is a thrifty purchase.
These were an expensive lesson. They were supposed to use plug in modules for various tasks. None of these modules worked.
They made so many so quick, I think they are all being taken out of service now. A multi-billion dollar exercise in poor planning, and design.

If you think these are strange looking, check out the USS Zumwalt DDG 1000. Built in Maine at Bath iron Works. She weighs in at 14,564 tons displacement, bigger than most WWII cruisers.
I know this has nothing to do with video. I just finished watching your video on the "Real Rambo". U should find a video about Canadian Cpl Leo Major. In WW11 he was wounded in which his back was broken and he lost an eye. He refused to be shipped home. He was a Scout Sniper. He was supposed to have been awarded 3 DCM's in his career. He refused the 1st because he hated and had no respect for the UK officer who was going to award it. He later liberated an entire village basically by himself capturing over 100 German SS soldiers. At some point he was awarded what should have been his 2nd DSC, but is listed as his 1st. He was quote as saying liked wearing an eye patch in combat as it made him look like a "pirate". After the war he went back to Montreal Canada and worked as a plumber. During the Korean War Canada called him back into service and he won another DCM. Being the only Canadian and possibly the only Commonwealth soldier to win the medal in 2 different wars. As an aside, if U have seen the video "When Canadians hear the word war" U should check it out, I'm sure it will surprise U.

We have a bunch of them here in san diego. I see them all the time. When i see the trident style one , it always looks weird and its very silent. And these ships are used mostly on usa litoral coast as defense. You rarely see them go to other continenta. Exept middle east where they have a couple defending agaisnt yemen attacks and anti piracy. Lately ive seen some of them sail out with himar vehicles on their flight deck, i heard they are testing shooting himars from sea to land, since himars have been doing grear in ukraine.
