Last time I looked at my 1972 Rover 2000 I saw the starter motor wires needed chopping out and repairing, I thought it would be a 10 minute fix but things didnt go to plan…

Good to see it firing up again 😀
It seems to crank slow. If the earth is heating up then you are creating an inline resistor and could do with upgrading. It might have been replaced in the past with whatever was about. Put a nice thick cable on and clean up the ends. Also those olives can be a right pain in the ass.
The slow starter revolutions was a hint that that an earth connection was a problem. After fixing, starter was spinning much better. Resistance is the nemesis of starters.. always check battery posts for any excessive heat , will tell you if a positive or negative problem.
That's a nice interior for a 50 year old car.
Wow,glad to see you made it unscathed through this one. There were a few scary moments on there. Thanks for vid. Take care.😳
You shouldn't crank for that long . That's why your earth getting so hot .it span over very slow why you kept on cranking
This could of had a very different ending what with electrical issues and an abundance of fuel/fumes,having said that I would of done the same thing
Always had a soft spot for those specially white with the red leather interior definitely one of my favourites
Ahhh Rovers are awesome they always start………ummm eventually.
Matt that was great to see the old girl start up. Sounded good too. Looking forward to a full review of it soon…👍
Seeing the P6 fuel system reminds me of a fault I once had. It's not related to your woes, but everyone might as well hear it. I had a P6B which would suffer from vapour lock in warm (though not actually hot) weather. It would starve for fuel, and then after parking for a time and letting the motor cool it would again run perfectly. It turned out, after much searching, that the fuel tap cable was poorly adjusted and slightly restricting fuel flow as a result. The car could still be driven hard without fuel starvation, but when the temperature got up a bit, the constricted line caused the pump suction to turn the fuel in the pump and pipe into vapour. No-one ever seems to check the operation of P6 fuel taps, but it's probably a good precautionary thing to do.
I may have that fuel pipe at my workshop if you still need it? I can check tomorrow for you 👍
You know that petrol is flammable right? Utterly hopeless as usual but I am pleased you didn't go up in flames – perhaps some prior warning about 'doing the same things as I do may result in self-immolation' would be more useful than a link to your sponsor? I
Nothing better than a "manual sucky thing"
🤣🤣
So, no gas turbine engine swap then?
Yay! Kind of forgot about this car until the fleet update 😂😂 I love this car, I think it's the perfect colour combination, Matt! Would love to see more of this car….she is a real beauty 😍😍
Current minor issues aside, I have to say the interior on that car is spectacular!
Nice to see more P6 action!
She's alive!
Better than the birth of your first child!
Well done Matt!
Running and sounding sweet the 2000,s are great engine,s.
It might be a good idea to get an armoured fuel line made up. Slightly longer so it can be rerouted slightly.
Quite honestly, that was concerning. I think there is a time to recognise real danger, walk away and to get a professional in.
Matt why don't you go ahead and buy yourself a flaring tool for copper pipes there really cheap now about £20
You can also do your brake pipes aswell as your petrol pipes.
it's funny that a choc block connector is fine for 220v 7.5 kW and higher to wire in a shower but dodgy with 12v 🤔
Good to see some P6 action. There are rumours that there's a V8 somewhere too.
normal hubnut levels of incompetance resumed👍
Matt as you have no mains electricity in the lockup would a petrol generator be a good idea for any cars you work on where mains electric is not readily available?
Wow that was anxiety inducing 😵💫 Not sure I would wanna be in there with a cable acting like a resister, and a puddle of jungle juice 😀
From a man who has made this mistake , don't use solder under a bonnet it will crack in no time. Use crimps.
I used to be driven to Primary School by an Olive. Sometimes in their 1965 Hillman Minx.
Reminds me of when I had a 90" Land Rover that would flash all kinds of weird lights over the dashboard when cranking, even making the alarm squeak and swoop. Then came the smoke… Turns out the earth strap had failed and it was using the throttle cable as the earth! Lots of melted grommets and cable sheaths… 😆
Good luck when you revisit this again Matt, I'm sure you'll finish it next time.
Brilliant to hear her fire into life at long life. Definitely keep a fire extinguisher handy especially in such confined spaces. Great video
That was sketchy
Matt, You need to invest in some Milwaukee battery powered tools. Best tools I have.
