Rover 75 Pre-MOT tinkering – brake flush, subframe painting and extreme clean

The Rover 75 has an MOT booked so I want to make it as presentable as possible, and that means putting back all the underbody trim that came off for the head gasket job, but before that there was some surface rust that needed treating plus some other pre-MOT checking before a deep clean.

  1. Winter wouldn't be winter without Mr. Matt doing inappropriate work for the conditions. Or appropriate work in inappropriate conditions..? It's one of them. I do love the look of the Rover and the colour. Just that pesky engine..!

  2. Car is coming along great! I think you should keep the original stereo if it works properly and upgrade the speakers for better sound. I have hundreds of nos blank tapes so i can record some albums for you for the full 2003 experience (seriously)🎶🎸🎹🎵

  3. Any vehicle rusts in the UK but fortunately in Australia modern cars usually don't rust my 1997 Toyota Hilux has only surface rust but its not a fail with the yearly rego check but there are some modern vehicles that do rust in Australia they are the Chinese built vehicles and the Chinese LDV utes they do rust terribly just demonstrates what awful build quality they have were my 27 year old Hilux is of far superior build quality than any Chinese built vehicle

  4. Matt, the 75 is an absolute gem and well worth all of your time,’effort and tinkering to really bring it up to the best that it can be, I really enjoy the attention and content you are putting into it, please keep it long term, it’s a wonderful thing!!

  5. Good luck with the screen wash. It will probably turn into a video. I had a BMW 420d convertible the other day the fluid had turned into a gel.
It was located behind the wing. Wheel off, liner out. I still could not remove the tank because of the vent on the wing that is fitted from the inside. Had to drill the vent out and glue it back. Job took two and a half hours.

  6. Unless you are keeping the car long term, DON’T change the interior and definitely not the wheels…. the Union alloys are perfect for that car and the 16” wheel and tyre combination is the ideal style / ride / handling compromise for a Series 1 Connoisseur….

  7. Matt that really is a beautiful example of a 75, and it is so synonymous with your channel, it would be an awful shame to sell it now! Like i said that car is basically your brand on 4 wheels, you really should think about keeping it!!!

  9. Interesting the issues you ran into trying to bleed the brakes using that kit – I had similar issues when I replaced the callipers on the V70 – did eventually get therein the end though. I'm afraid I might of choked on my tea when that bottle went over! 🤣❤

  10. Bucket of warm water to help soften the clay bar, and make it in to a flat disk so you can fold it if half when it becomes dirty and then flatten again into a disk, not roll it in to a sausage and mix. 😉

  11. Lo Matt, i cannae believe you are actually debating whether to keep this or not. The car is fine in the spec it is in.. Washers. Save faffing about and cut the tube from the washer motor to the wjpers at the exit to the washers and work up from there.OR get some tube and replace the lot. Much easier. 🤣🤣 Mind you just because you hear the noise from the motor diznae mean it is pumping water. Ive had this happen to me before. Later

  12. Why do you do all this work in the wet? Wait for a few hours, or even till the next day for a cloudless, sunny day, then do it. You Pommes have a funny way of doing stuff, I’ve even seen a bloke in a convertible, roof down and wearing a wooly jacket and scarf!! T shirt and shorts when you are in a convertible!!

  13. Today my Laguna had its MOT and it passed with flying colors! Felt the need to say that, cause Matt's video on the Laguna convinced me to buy this car in the first place! Not bad for a 1999 car 😀
