  1. Riot's been building League lore for a loong time now. League has been out for 13 years now and while the lore started really simple they've been working at it for a long time now building and expanding the world. They've written many stories, they've been killing it with the cinematics and in November last year we finally got an actual series where they showed a wider audience what their team is capable of. Riot's got some really talented writers, the world is already incredibly interesting and it seems like with this MMO they're going to push it even further.

  2. I have to wholeheartedly disagree with everyone raving about the great lore of LoL. Runeterra always been a cobbled together mishmash of saturday morning cartoons. Don't get me wrong, that's all well and good for a MOBA that needs hero variety. But the world inherently lacks what every great fantasy requires, some semblance of depth and overarching cohesion.

  3. While I agree his initial 3 tenets of MMO success is correct, I think the World setting is by far the most impactful of the 3 for guaranteed continuity of an MMO. There's a reason that, even though they are "worse" than WoW and many other newer MMOs for so long, LOTRO and SWTOR are still around and updating on a regular basis. People are insanely passionate about stories they love and will put up with a lot to feel like they get to be a part of it. And I don't think people give enough credit to the Warcraft RTS worldbuilding that allowed Blizzard the freedom to focus on gameplay and social interaction, instead of having to do that WHILE creating a massive world to play in.

With that being said, Riot has a HUGE advantage in the mmo market, with LoL being so popular for so long, and it's critically acclaimed media outside the game "building the world" for the devs in a way. It's taken away so much of the time they would need to brainstorm/think tank on building a world that it frees up the devs to think about social interaction and gameplay inside the world.

It's obviously way too early to tell, but I think Riot's MMO has the best chance we've ever seen to (in the US at least) actually be the MMO to take the place of WoW as the flagship MMO.

  4. I think sometimes dev focus so much on the combat that people that arent interested in combat get nothing at all. To me that was the amazing thing about RS back in the day was a huge portion of the games population was just going around doing whatever they found interesting, combat was right in line with everything else instead of way up on a pedistol. it was as close to the opposite of "you are the one true savior and so is everyone else" as i've ever seen and I really really like that style. Too many games are like "look we have trading for non combat players……oh and also combat players can raid your caravan and steal your shit, so you better get good at combat".

  5. Most people percieve Demacia as the "good guys" and Noxus as the "bad guys", but when you think about it then Demacia are the bad guys while Noxus are the good guys, cuz although noxus are known as warmongers they have often liberated opressed citys that they conquer, while Demacia obviously as said in this video torture mages….

  6. Arcane changed my whole opinion on Riot, i always ignored League but that's mostly due to the community it has, the art direction of Riot is amazing and the lore they created is really promising.

  7. i would like to wait another 10 years for the game so i can keep partying and after 10 years i'll probably be in my wheelchair and can play the game endlessly 😀

  8. I love how he slowly realises how powerful this Lore is, i personally been years around Riot's Work, since the Season 2! I'm a writer, a little amateur [and with hope lol], and truly, worldbuilding is kinda what i love to do most. And Riot simply NAILED IT, they took random pieces, persons, desings, that looked completly oppossite and made this World, vast, diverse, and with so much content!

I truly respect the writers of Riot Games, the Lore Team is incredible and i can probably say that it's one of the best out there when it comes to Lore of Games.

  9. People in the end said Riot doesn't have a balance team. Bro, you're so stupid. Play other games to gain perspective. Tell me a champion that had 60% or more winrate for more than 2 patches. You're not gonna be able to mention any.
Every champion is around 45-55% winrate. You're used to good and you don't have perspective.
WoW had horribly badly balanced patches for months.
Riot listens to the community, remember when people were saying there's too much damage in the game overall? And then they had the balls to radically change the durability of every champion in the game.

Also, look at Teamfight Tactics. They have the best team ever. Mortdog is a god, he plays the game all the time and he's aware of the issues of the game and fixes them very quickly. His team is top notch. Also he's so engaged with the community that I've seen him on CompetitiveTFT subreddit which is not even the main TFT subreddit. He's in the comments reading everyone, responding, etc.

  10. If Riot spends half of the effort they have on their writing/world building to make this MMO solid, it will be the most dominant MMO of the next decade. Seeing how they are currently thrashing LoL though from a player's POV, stay tuned, it may be written beautifully but fall straight into a monetization hole.

  11. When they announced the mmo, they were starting to hire devs for this project, so I don't think it was set to come out in the next few years. Also, I'd rather wait for 10 years for a pristine product.. but nah maybe it won't take 10 years, before at the end of the day, Riot Games probably has pressure from tencent and stuff.. (Now that I think about it, this mmo might come out on mobile aswell, but we'll have to see)
