Rimworld: Deserter Doom – Part 3: The Universe Holds Its Breath [Cassandra, Losing Is Fun]

After years of mild inconveince and occasional irritation, we have finally managed to break away in our new colony, thanks to the “Vanilla Factions Expanded – Deserters” mod! Our path is clear, we must secretly undermine the Empire via a new deserter network, with many new quests, items, and interesting events! We’ve also decided that we need some cool rides from the “Vanilla Vehicles Expanded” mod, and to conquer both nature and science, via “Genetics Expanded” and “Sparkling Worlds”! I see no way in which this carefully laid plan could fail.

Rimworld itself is a sci-fi story generator and colony simulator from Ludeon Studios. Build new homes, meet new friends, turn them into hats, lose limbs to raiders, then die to a massive bug invasion! [Cassandra, Losing Is Fun]

  1. I highly recommend checking out and experimenting with the protector psycast tree (the one you unlocked by default). The pinnacle psycast of the tree is by far the strongest psycast in the game IMO. So long as you put a few psycast levels into upping your pawn's max neural heat and heat dissipation you're good for a full fight. While the barrier is being cast the caster cannot use other casts and constantly gains neural heat until they cancel or exceed their max heat. The barrier stops all projectiles (ground or mortar) and is mobile, anchored on the caster. The only thing its weak to is grazer beams from biotech mechanoids. Melee raids like tribals will end up being the biggest problem.

Maybe don't take it to the extreme I do as it makes colony defense boring when you totally minmax it. After a dozen or so levels into leveling psycasting stats and your caster dissipates heat faster than the barrier creates it so you can cast it forever.

  2. Watching this while rewatching the desert doom series really brings home how consistently enjoyable your series are, Deco. It's an ability very few in the Rimworld Youtube "scene" seem to have and I'm glad you're back. 🙂

  3. @Decoherant Place 2 single beds next to each other for Kevin & Verdo ( it's dumb yes but it works, Ive seen you do it in a past video. Back to the 1950's sleeping arrangements ) I don't know if they will consider it a barrack because of the 2 beds. It's either that or you go into dev mode & fix the issue.

Your voice sounds much better in this one , still quite bass heavy , but still better. Keep churning out the episodes 😁

  4. My favorite Kevin was a small box turtle who lived at the nature center of a nearby state park here in Ohio. He was found by the park rangers being carried around by a bobcat in its enclosure, so they took the turtle in to the nature center and set up a nice habitat for him to live comfortably. The day I met him he was in his fancy habitat falling around on his back. I flipped him back over, but before I left the nature center he had flipped himself back on his back. Classic Kevin.

  5. Hey there – enjoying the series – one quick question:
Which mod is allowing you to move walls? (Like when re-sizing the bedrooms.)
I've looked through the mod-list & read some descriptions, but can't seem to find it. Cheers

  6. I still want Deco to explain his method for deciding which colonists he likes and wants to keep. When he selected Antonina and I saw a 15 double fire Intellectual with the Hard Worker trait, my thought was "Holy shit! that's a perfect dedicated researcher!" His reaction? "You're terrible!" At least he saw it after that comment, but he often makes the exact opposite choice I'd make when it comes to recruiting/not recruiting. I'd just like to know his thought process. Maybe I'm missing something.

  7. Absolutely worked with a Kevin once. Poor guy had to be told how to do anything a hundred times, and rarely did anything without some kind of accident. Usually harmless, but always accidents.
