‘Ridiculous’: Richard Marles responds to Opposition’s ‘pure politics’ on US Red Sea request

Defence Minister Richard Marles has labelled the Opposition’s criticism over denying a US request to send a warship to the Red Sea as “pure politics”.

The Opposition claims that it’s “troubling” that days after the passage of AUKUS was passed in Congress, Australia has turned down an important request from Australia’s closest allies.

The Opposition claims the Albanese government’s “inaction” makes Australia a “less reliable” ally.

“It’s patently ridiculous,” he told Sky News Australia.

“We’ve not turned down a request; we’ve met the request … by tripling our contribution to the Combined Maritime Force, and America greatly appreciates what we have done here.”

  1. Australia is weak, weak, weak. Our self serving woke politicians, especially this sissy little rainbow man are feeding us lies . The truth is we are now moving closer to cooperating with China due to what Albo says is our national interest. $$$$$$$ Also we have been sucking on the American tit for so long in terms of defence that we have very little to defend ourselves with. Far cheaper for all our governments to suck up to the big boys and feather our personal nests then take care of ourselves militarily. We don’t have a capable defence force so all lies from Richard Marles. Albo and his woke government loaded with woke women and a limp array of male politicians are heading us down a dangerous path.

  2. The only ones playing politics are Labor, they are playing a game they have no idea about, we have the ability to send them, we can, they are making it a political situation, they are also receiving a pat on the head from the CCP, this is a national shame !!

  3. These are stupid manipulative questions from MurDick reporters and LNP. 10 countries will have ships over there that are closer to that area. Do not need us we are way better off sticking to the south china sea and the pacific where American and British ships are anyway, so we still help if it's there or here. No difference helping here or there except further away from supply.
