Ik the whole thing is ridiculous but itโs almost close to good satire of how some zoos are actually horrifically maintained.
I think the best example of that sort of thing happening was a bunch of โmini sea worldsโ called SeaQuest in America and how every single one of their animals routinely died and often were permanently crippled in horrific and repulsive ways and often replaced when they die or if they are โluckyโ then when the SeaQuest has too many of them and are they are โset freeโ and die in unnatural ecosystems they arenโt adapted to and at least donโt starve.
I bring it up because the line about how the animals are relying on the the patrons feeding them is exactly what happened there.
The SeaQuest locations would often starve the animals so that when the people going there offer them food the animals will have to take it from their hands or completely die of starvation, when the staff didnโt starve the animals the animals would hide from the people even if that meant not moving for as long as possible, there was even a recording of a higher up chastising an employee for giving a rabbit a food bowl with food in it because of the previously stated reasoning.
The staff would also say things like: โlook at how the animals always choose to greet the customers and eat from their hands, it shows how much the patrons being there really enrich the life of these animals!โ
You can look up documentaries on it but I warn you they were really really fucking cruel to those animals and thereโs pictures, videos, and voice recordings.
Now I have 2 thoughts about the zebra targeted commercial 1st are the zebras not the only sapient species for this commercial? Like donkeys since there more related to them or other wildlife like the sharks and lions and gorillas,etc we see in this video? And second if all true then is it like when we arenโt looking the animals are all sapient? And if not and itโs only the zebras then why are they naked while the humans are in full modern clothing,also why arenโt they in clothing doing this to the humans than the humans themselves
I love the commercial itself, good set up and a funny as hell pay off.
But damn they ruined it with Morty having to be a cynical asshole about it. This show wants to be a fun adventure parody with cool sci-fi elements. Yet is so cynical Iโm just imagining the writers constantly have a GUN pointed to their heads, they have to be edgy and cynical about every joke and plot beat because that was coolโฆ like 20 years ago.
Morty breaks it down the same way rick dies and has the same reaction rick would but rick would have pieced it together instantly and would bave just been walking around talking about how this is a human zoo and its lame ๐คฃ
