Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the Roman, Byzantine and Medieval history continues with an episode on the Byzantine Reconquista – a period between the Early Muslim Expansions and the Rise of the Seljuks during which the Eastern Roman Empire managed to reconquer a number of regions under the rule of the Macedonian dynasty, as Nikephoros II Phokas, John I Tzimiskes and Basil II retook parts of the Balkans and the Middle East from the Slavs and the Arabs.

  1. Wow, what an incredible story. I really love these long detailed videos, like this video and epic history tv’s Belisarius video are two of my favorite Eastern Roman Empire stories.

  2. There is no such city as Pereslavets. The city that is mentioned by Sviatoslav that he wanted to make his new capital was the large city and capital of Bulgaria – Preslav.

  3. I've said it before, and in all likelihood, I will echo this sentiment many times more in the future: Kings and Generals is the greatest channel on YouTube! The quality, not to mention the sheer volume, of your content is simply unparalleled. And, for free no less? Truly, words cannot do justice to both how impressed, and how thankful, I am for the entire Kings and Generals team.

Thank you guys for all that you do in providing us with such enjoyable, quality content. And happy holidays and happy new year to you all!

  4. Love the series!!
I do have a question though
1:22:26 – we see Kievan Rus map and on it two cities, Novgorod, which is one of the first Viking settlements in the Slavic territory and Moscow
Seeing as the year is 987, why is there Moscow on the map but not Kiev?
It is after all “Kievan Rus”
Moscow only became prominent after the Mongol invasions of 1200s and on.
During this time it is a tiny village or it may not even exist yet.

Just a little complaint, but otherwise I have thoroughly enjoyed this episode! Thank you for the hard work and so much content!!
