We had an attack of those quite a few years ago and we called O.U. Agricultural Dept. and they told us to spray our trees with a mixture of regular tide and water. Worked great. Never had them again.❤
Bag worms are different, those are tent caterpillars or also referred to as web worms. We always cut off the branch they are on and burn the branch. Bag worms form a bag hanging from the branch.

In Michigan we call them tent worms and my Dad would cut the branch and burn them to get rid of them completely.
