The new UI and possible hint system has been revealed in the Return to monkey island gameplay teaser reveal this week that has been shared by Ron Gilbert! In this week’s return to monkey island monkey island monday we revisit the scumm bar which is under new rule.
It’s exciting to see more gameplay footage of the new island and to see how we will talk to characters in return to monkey island!
Return to monkey island’s art and design choice has been a very controversial amongst some fans of the game. Some love it and some, like me are not 100% invested but and hyped nonetheless. In this video we discuss the game art for Return to Monkey island.
I like the graphics in the return to monkey island… except the faces. I think it’s the eyes.
This is technically monkey island 6 but more like a replacement for monkey island 3. This is because Lucasfilm games have finally given Ron Gilbert permission to make a new Monkey Island games for 2022 and he has been working hard to bring his third game to life as Return to Monkey Island. Lucasfilm has licensed the game to Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox and Devolver Digital. The game is set to release this year after being in production for the last two years.
Return to Monkey Island will pick up exactly where Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge left off. In a carnival after the reveal that LeChuck is Guybrush’s creepy little brother Chucky. Whether this will be revealed to be some sort of dream or hypnosis or genuine reality, we will have to wait and see.
Ron Gilbert is joined by Monkey island veteran Dave Grossman, who helped develop the game. Dave Grossman worked on the original games as well as led the development of the fifth game Tales of Monkey Island.

Cant wait for gamescom
It's not a hint system but most probably Guybrush's thoughts
Looking forward to Stan’s reveal
Love the music in this game
I so want to like this game, but I always find myself being skeptic. So, if there's no verb or coin system, and the object tooltips already guide you through the game, what will the riddles be like? Either just left click the right thing, or use an inventory item on something on the screen? (I hope there will be an inventory.) Mhm, I don't know.
Something about the art style…Not a fan.
I hope you'll have the option to choose different actions and not just have one default action for interactions.
I liked the menu mechanic where you clicked on an individual object and different options appeared but unfortunately it doesn't seem like this is going to be in this game:(
I am still happy to see another Monkey Island game, I just hope it will be as great as Ron's other masterpieces.
