Restaurant Earnings Confirm Date Night is Dead

Ok, maybe that title was little over dramatic, but you get the picture. A slew of restaurant stocks reported earnings today that show declining traffic and same store sales in many popular chains as consumers continue to pull back their spending. Add in an E-coli outbreak at McDonald’s and to complete a rough morning for restaurants across the board.

  1. Starbucks has three problems. Their service is slow because of the special order of nearly everything. Their drive thru ( if they have one at the location) isn't set up for speed, see reason One. Their prices are higher than the competition. ( West Coast) Dutch Brothers runs a small footprint, efficient operation with cheaper prices. They usually set up close to a Starbucks and are taking their less entitled customers who want to save money. ( East Coast) Dunkin Donuts has loyal customers that only do Starbucks as a treat and they're feeling the pinch. Like people eating at home vs out at Chain restaurants and shopping at Walmart, people are trading down.

  2. Re: Qualcomm and ARM? There was a massive split two years ago. I had no idea until a friend from Australia shared an article about it. Be thoughtful. This could drag on a while.

  3. I've been in California 5 months after traveling in 14 other countries and decided to boycott the entire service industry in California. Its simply idiotic and if they keep raising wages for robot work there will be a spiral resulting in no American made products sold to anyone except the sucker… er Americans.

  5. Since BRICS summit is today, it's funny how some say out of one side of their mouth inflation is here to stay due to endless government currency debasement, and out of the other say BRICS countries are going to willingly give up the ability to steal from and defraud their constituents via money printing – particularly when one of those countries is in the middle of a prolonged war while another is navigating a massive economic and property crisis in which they’re currently printing money to juice their stock market, all while economies all across the globe are houses of cards on the verge of collapse.

  6. Date night? I look at a $200 dollar night out as $200 I can use to buy 3 times leveraged short ETFs. That $200 5 years from now might be worth $5k. Just sayin. Who is spending money on anything other then getting rid of debt or using their money to make more money? If they aren't they are just falling farther and farther behind.

  7. Major commodities like iron, steel, fertilizer and ethanol dropped way over 30% from highs. Food stays up; even butter record highs; meats near highs. I smell a rat and it is off menu.
