Feels like it’s been forever since I last wrote one of these. Hope you’ve been well, me? I’ve just been working on this video forever. This took a lot longer than I expected, and I had trouble for how I wanted to plan this video out. I think it came together in the end, but we’ll see.
Outbreak is Capcoms first try at bringing multiplayer to the Resident Evil franchise. Now how did that pan out? Critically not too well, but it’s definitely a cult classic. So jump back to the event of raccoon city with me, and see why.

Hey, there's me in the chat at 32:57!
Our community is fairly niche but very active, if you pop in randomly in chat you will most likely see me and a couple other guys pictured there online. I do my best when it comes to helping new players get set up, and also learning the ropes. Outbreak games have so, so much depth, both mechanically and with lore/interactions, that you never truly stop learning about it. Which for me is one of the best aspects of the whole experience. When it comes to actually playing it online in 2023, the community has done lots of things to improve the experience, like shortening the load times, having the game display in true widescreen, HD textures, the works.
When it comes to a possible re-release or remaster, that window of time has clearly passed. I believe the main reason this was never re-released is because Capcom simply wanted to do the barest of minimums, but Outbreak would require a complete rework of the netcode from the ground up, and they just didn't want to bother with it. Now, I don't "hate" the recent remakes, but they feel soulless, a bit pandering and most of the time have content completely revised or straight up cut. I can't begin to describe how hard an eventual remake of Outbreak would ruin these games. I would love to believe a re-release is still possible, but let's not kid ourselves.
In any case, most of the community is really cool and there are people who help newcomers, if Outbreak has interested you in the slightest, you really should give it a try.
i',m wondering where's jill at that time?
The best game ever and the beginning of multiplayer online. Had to disconnect the house phone to play.
Outbreak and Code Veronica needed to be remade. 🤞🏻
Sidney
I pray for the day Capcom would give us a proper remastered collection of both games with no loading screens, functional online and trophies/achievements. These games are 🔥
Would it kill Capcom to atleast HD Remaster Outbreak File 1 and 2 for current consoles.
At this point, everybody alive in raccoon city has passed through the umbrella laboratory
21:00 how the hell did anyone solve this? Lmao
Im sorry but i feel you are not qualified to make a video about this game your knowledge of it is someone who literally watched a lore video of all resident evil games combined and just winged it acting like you know things, the start of the video you should of clearly stated im a noob and this is all my opinion, wouldve been more understanding
I can recall using my zombie powers for good rather than evil. Mostly just opening doors for the remaining players
I Purchased TheHDD For ThePS2, & Purchased This Game (OutBreak)…Because It Was "HDD Compatible".
& When I Finally Played TheGame Online…I Never Played It Again!
(Not Being Able to Use My SOCOM HeadSet for ONLINE Play, Made TheGame Even More "Frustrating"!…& Having "Pre-Set-Audio-Phrases" to Select from…Was Even More INFURIATING!😠)
I Was Furious I Blew $100 on a ResidentEvil…That Was More of a "Point&Click"…Than R.E.!🤦
The good new is; You can play any outbreak online now with the ps2 emulator, without that troubles of old times.
41:50…
Fleas in a Subway Fight?…
You'd Think There'd Be Mutant Subway-RATS…In TheSubway, Not "Fleas".🤔
If any game needs a reboot, it's this one!
This game was wayyyy ahead of its time…its time is NOW for remake. It would do insanely well.
Absolute masterclass in atmosphere and idea.
I don't understand, why Capcom is not doing anything with the Outbreak series.
I like it because of the limit and the specialized use of each cahracter
At the beginning in the Bar you can have Bob come with you, and he’ll die on the roof.
Am I the only one hearing him say Sydney instead of Cindy every time? 😂 great video though!
I couldn't get past the zoo on outbreak file 2
this gave me PTSD when playing this game because this game would be impossible to beat by yourself if it wasnt for the AI just getting the key items for you unless they died and you cant find them then good luck trying to find them especially if they were (eaten whole by an enemy, grabbed by a zombie through a window, or just fell because a crow was in the wrong place at the wrong time) and i like puzzles but holy shit just the amount of guessing you have to do just to be like ohh THATS WHAT I HAVE TO DO? but this video just makes me want to try and play it again though
Crazy this video pops up in my feed when I was just having a nostalgic moment remembering outbreak yesterday
43:16 No, he said there wasn't a decent one nearby. And he's right. lol
One thing that i always found funny in resident evil games, there are vines blocking the exist door? Man, you have a small armory with you, i am pretty sure you can shoot down the door or whatever is blocking it.
definitely a game before its time
I really enjoyed this back in the day ps2 ❤
Huge fan of Outbreak. I recommend you guys to try out Outlast Trials. It very much has an outbreak vibes with how trials or "scenarios" work, has coop and all that, and maybe if that game does well Capcom could finally contemplate an Outbreak remake or File 3.
Duuuude I've never used the wrench in Below Freezing Point to open the panel!!! I thought it was literally useless!!! So many memories. Hopefully a remake comes along. Greetings from Argentina!
Great Video! I love Outbreak but have never been able to play online (yet!) and i defo feel it deserves some kind of re-release whether HD update or sequel!
The giant plant at 9:00 looked like my girlfriends mumu if she wouldnt shave for a weak
loved outbreak from the start. great video dude.
This was the first online game I played on console… Even bought the adapter for the internet 🛜
I never liked the "time attack" disguise as virus progression aspect of the game, always hated games that say you have X amount of time to do this or that. Other than that, good game.
This game is surprisingly in depth!
When you play Outbreak with bots, Resident Evil 0 feels a masterpiece in comparaison.
Cindy is not Sidney
I would def love a third entry made in the style of RE2&3 remake, RE hasnt had a good multiplayer game since RE5 which altho strayed kinda far from the originals, and has a messy story was still quite fun in Coop just replayed it with a friend few days ago since it is on winter sale thru steam and we had a lot of fun. And they should def. keep the old characters in but with new or reimagined levels.
