  1. I actually disagree. Although set in Africa, depicting everyone as primitive is not a good look. Ye some of Africa is, but probably not the majority and when there is little representation of Africa as it is, to depict it this way is harmful. Also he completely ignored the IGN guy’s comment that the people were violent even before being zombies, and yeah… that’s not great

  2. I enjoyed RE5 even as a hardcore RE fan. I loved the co-op and merc mode. He did fail to mention that Chris's partner "Sheva" is black and from the African branch of the BSAA. Not to mention other NPC heros like Josh who is also black. He helps you through the whole game. You'd think they would praise this game, a squad of African Americans take down the evil white dude.

  3. The article itself was very poorly constructed in its justifications. I played Resident Evil 5 in 2009 where this issue was not relevant and went unnoticed, which by the way I had a lot of fun with. It's important to understand that there is indeed a racist structure in society that has long placed black people in marginalized stereotypes. That said, it's important to affirm that there is no more toxic and prejudiced community than the gaming community, and reinforcing stereotypes is reinforcing prejudiced behavior. Perhaps the purpose of the article is a critique of the community itself, which simply does not understand historical processes, and which normalizes certain situations and patterns within games. Having the game set in a country in the African continent is perfectly okay, but having the entire game where you only kill black people (SOUTH AFRICA is a country where there are white and mixed-race people) is not okay. Having only white and intelligent bosses in the game is a red alert. The problem is not in portraying or representing, it's in reinforcing historical stereotypes, reinforcing racial structures! Resident Evil 5 is a cool game, but it indeed needs to review some structures because despite being a remake, it is not being released in 2009 but in 2024, and a lot has evolved in these discussions since then, and that's normal…

  5. The problem is gunning down whole villages. That’s what happened in genocides. Maybe if the setting was in a town it will be okay. But villages it strikes a nerve because of real massacres

  6. Resident Evil 5 is an amazing game, i really loved that a lot. i actually bought it on steam again like 2 years ago and had a blast again. by today's standards graphics is dogshit ofc, but most of those missions are very good and unique. it also has quite a bit of replayability, it's even more fun when you open the hardest-hitting revolver and a rocket launcher.
it also annoys me about all this racist nonsense, it's a damn game and not a documentary about some tribe in africa. super mario must also be racist, as 2 italian guys are white and there's no black or asian characters there at all?

  7. RE5 was a great time. The opinion that re5 lost its way ignores the fact that most RE games were not as good as they claim before these remakes. Re2 was the shining example, except for that camera. 3&4 were plagued with awful controls. 5 was one of the best co-op experiences of my life and the notion that RE5 is wrong for having that play style is absurd.

  8. It's the same thing as witcher 3. Ya'll remember that? Games set in sweden or some other predominantly white race place and everyone was calling it racist cuz the cast of the game was predominantly white lol.

  9. "A Resident Evil game set in Africa where you shoot Africans that are infected with an imaginary virus that makes them completely unreasonable is racist because I said so." – IGN.
