The rescue pole is OCN’s most successful tool at the Walvis Bay Harbour. Seals are used to humans around them and they don’t feel threatened by us and allow us to get close enough to cut them free with one quick motion. They usually mind their own business and rest or sunbathe next to the fishing factories. Their proximity to the fishing factories is also the reason why so many of the few seals in this area continue to get entangled – there is simply too much rubbish in the area. Fishing vessels come and go all day long, and many of them bring back fishing lines, packing straps, fishing nets or other fishing related trash. It only takes one loop of lost fishing line or packing strap to kill a seal, and we often see large amounts of this type of rubbish being blown into the ocean.

"its Sunday, just rest!"😂
"Gentle seals, I am not going to disturb your Sunday Rest; however, I am collecting for OCN? Do you have a contribution for me?"
❤Team OCN! Love your Pole Hook invention Toni! 👍😎✊
I think he was just enjoying the lovely warm sunshine. At the same time his life was saved!
Well done🙂🏴
Awesome work!!! Thank you
Thank you Antoine.
So much stealth! Toni is the master!!
Different “ miracles” are documented from around the world and there is always someone to explain away anything miraculous, however Antoine, you are a miracle along with your other rescuers, due to the fact you all can spot a tangled seal in a huge herd of seals, you all can jump from a speeding truck and keep on running, run thru a herd of seals, stand on a rock and getting pelted from huge waves and Antoine, you didn’t get washed into the ocean but persevered to net the seal in very turbulent waters. How you accomplished that feat was truly a miracle. And always, always care for each and every rescue with so much compassion and patience, and tenderness. You all didn’t just get there by chance. You got stuck there due to COVID Antoine and that became your calling. Maybe that was the plan for you.
Antoine you are very fast with that hook at the docks❤
😂If looks could kill….who interrupted my nap, was it you!! Well done Tony ❤
Always thank you to help this lovely Angels ❤❤❤❤❤
You really don’t want to get close to this big boy, they could do a lot of damage .
❤❤❤
1:37 The third seal lying down clearly growled in just peer pressure
Thanks Toni.
Sneaky Tony😂😂 good jod and cute talk .
Best wishes 🤝👍
❤❤❤
You are so committed to this beautiful mission of saving these magnificent animals, that days off do not exist in your itinerary!!! God bless you all!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
that hook is a life saver!
Great speed and accuracy to free this chap. I often wonder what they are saying to you – it would definitely be thank you if they understood what you were doing for them.
❤❤❤ for the team
And now he’s free! Thankyou
some time between now and when the oceans are completely clear of entangling garbage, I hope that the seals learn to come directly to you for help 😊
I love these rescues
Nice save! Love stealth mode!
That was a smooth move..💯🇺🇲💥👍💪✌️👍
❤❤❤❤❤
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Bravo Tony, un succès de plus ! On va finir par devoir t'appeler Capitaine Crochet 😉🤣🤣🤣.
I know it has been used before, but the long hook is a brillant strategy to save these huge bull seals.
The maestro of the sharp hook!!
"And now he's free"… Thank you Tony!!!! 😘😘
Good sneaking!
I love the videos where the super tool pole/hook is used. The rescues are most often successful and the seals quite calm about it all. Thank you OCN !!
Probably silly question but are Antoine and Tony the same person?
Another Sunday stroll… Nice rescue, Antoine 🌊🦭✂️🌍💙
For several years I have seen so many of your difficult rescue actions to save so many seals from their entanglements, hanging around their necks or other body parts. I am relieved and very pleased to see that some of the rescue actions can be done both at a safe distance as well as without disturbing the seals much, if at all. Such a neat and impressive skill to be able to cut the entanglements so quickly and unobtrusively, leaving the seals in question saved and only mildly puzzled, if reacting at all.
I am just so glad I get the chance to be around to watch these moments coming true, after having dreamt of stress-free methods of removing entanglements during those years gone by, while watching you run across the beaches or across treacherous rocks, in danger of hurting yourself (and possibly some of the seals in the process), but days like this seem like they offer a relief, knowing that another seal has been saved from their dangerous entanglement just about to kill the seal, if left hanging on the seal. Thank you for your efforts.
You folks make it look so easy, even when it is not!!
