  1. This is all fine but solar power generation is not reliable. So if you have large solar generation, and massive battery to go with it what happens when the bad weather rolls in. You have very little power generation and the battery becomes a dead weight.

  2. It is massive. I live in Latvia, which is in Eastern or Northern Europe depending whom you asked, former USSR and even like 5 years ago, in 2019, solar was seen more like… well that you cannot use it in our climate, we are significantly up north, and batteries were an even more absurd proposal at that time, just 5 years ago. Novelty for rich countries that want to go green badly and even at that questionable how to scale them. Of course Russian war sort of helped with rising gas prices and electricity but today solar already is 3rd biggest source of electricity in Latvia after hydro and natural gas, and it has actually a good chance to surpass gas or come close by 2028 or so. We have been slow on wind as our grid was mainly hydro, renewable imports, other renewables and maybe 30 % natural gas so pretty clean by standards in the past, but gas will be massively replaced going forward. Maybe not yet during heating season but there are also first battery storage projects coming online here already next year. And in reality this whole solar deployment started in 2022 with war in Ukraine and it shows no signs of stopping at least in next few years. Still not that much of solar is deployed, over 600 MW, but it is certain by end of 2026 there will be close to 2 GW installed, just counting all the projects in the pipeline which are being built or close to it. With new wind projects also popping it, it may be even so that in 2027 solar could be nr.2 in our generation after hydro, relegating gas to nr.3 spot. And it is perfectly doable as our neighbor Lithuania is a country of similar size and it will reach 2 GW very soon next year.

  3. Thing is it also makes hard to build nuclear plants, even the modular small ones, as they still would probably take 10 years from idea to completion, and in this market you just do not know where the market will be in 10 years. So then they need government guarantees or money to start planning for nuclear, but government is reluctant to do it because private investors can set up solar + batteries already in 1 year from now, not 10 years… and they can do it gradually following what the market needs, can start with smaller projects and then build bigger ones if there is still a need. For nuclear it's a big bang. Either you will have it built in 10 years or not, and the market is just unpredictable now with renewables and batteries falling in price.
Solar meanwhile where I live could take even as little as 1 or 1,5 years for 300 MW capacity project.

  4. Mate I’m not sure if I mentioned this to you before but solar energy is not the future and there’s been a new source of energy to scientist that will be revealed in the future and the last I seen on it. It’s now this powder this nuclear power powder that’s being investigated and researched right now by the Chinese by a China, researcher scientist, who is educated in America he’s now in China and they’re way ahead of everyone else with this powder and that’s where your energy source is going to come from no doubt

  5. So many RIGs (Random Internet Guys) showing up pretending to be expert in energy economics. Throwing around numbers out of nowhere . . . or you know where.

Meanwhile, what do the PROFESSIONALS say? International Energy Agency (IEA) says solar plus storage is now cheapest LCOE in many countries including US. This after declaring in 2021 solar energy the cheapest form of electricity in freakin' HISTORY!

So, who is the IEA? The IEA is an established, industry-standard, go-to data aggregator and forecaster for all things related to the global energy sector. All the pros around the world in business, investment and government turn to the IEA when they need reliable energy data. The historically conservative IEA has favoured legacy energy like oil, coal, gas, nuclear and hydro in their past projections. But now they say SOLAR PLUS STORAGE IS CHEAPEST! Look it up.

  6. It’s great that Solar is doing so well but did you see the destruction of a solar farm caused by a recent hurricane in USA (Florida I think). Is there something that can be done to make these installations stronger? Shouldn’t a power utility be required to be able to survive a Category 3 storm?

  7. 3:08 show me the data. Germany is cheating a lot in regard to the Energiewende. It is a political project. They hide, how much power plants have to burn fuel in idle time to give renewables the window to work. So getting into the data is crucial.

  8. Money is the only thing that motivates industry. They dont care about the planet or people. So if the cost to borrow, if the cost to replace is more , that will force them to look at other options.

Unfortunately, in the usa, we have a powerful fossil fuel lobby and they lie and payoff politicians. They sponsor local groups to fight against wind and solar farms. The NIMBY movement isnsponsored by them. We have so many ignorant people who would rather kill a solar farm because they refuse to acknowledge that farming can actually benefit from solar shade and water savings if the solar farm is designed for this.

  9. Dutton's energy policy can only solve 10% of Australia’s clean energy problem and telling the world to go nuclear and buy nuclear submarines and massive weapons systems and expand its military defence budgets and buy Australia’s uranium yellowcake and iron ore and coal for smelting and refining and copper and zinc and aluminium and….rare earth mineral and lithium and……

Buy more nuclear submarines if more countries go nuclear

that the best renewable country on the planet cannot do clean renewables, dirt cheap rooftop PV that can easily out generate all the fossil fueled 25gW electricity plants.
