Report reveals number of applicants failing Australian citizenship test

A recent report has revealed that one-third of people applying for citizenship in Australia have failed the citizenship test.

The test, which is designed to assess an individual’s knowledge of Australian history, values, and its democratic system, has raised questions about the level of understanding among those seeking to become Australian citizens.

Sky News host Chris Kenny, Liz Storer and contributor Joe Hilderbrand recently discussed the test on air and were surprised by the ease of some of the questions.

“The fact that it’s multiple choice makes it even worse if someone fails. It’s like we’re only asking for a 75 per cent pass right here. You can get a quarter of these wrong, but there are the answers. You just have to know which one to pick,” Ms Storer said.

  1. Yes, women have equal rights… and lefts; but, seriously, the Australian citizen test IS very hard, because the questions on the practice test are sometimes a bit vague, and even though I passed on the third and final time, the whole experience was very stressful.

  2. Tell me about it!! I watched this first hand when I took my citizenship test in 2023. People to my left and to right, at the testing cubicles couldn't speak a word of English. As I finished my test, I peeked over to my right side and the person taking the exam was still on question number 3. There is something wrong with this process. I'm sure they were allowed to take the test multiple times; afterall I was in Melbourne!!! What a joke!!
