One of our biggest jobs was to repair our 9m carbon fibre boom. In the last couple of videos we cut the boom in 2 pieces, and made a mould of the profile so that we could start building a sleeve which we then used to glue the boom back together in a straight line.
In this video, we finally finish the job and after 2 years, we have our boom in one piece once more!

Caio! We are Timo and Jo, an Italian and English couple with countless ocean miles under our belts. We’re refitting an ex Vendée Globe Open 60 race boat originally designed & built & raced by famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa. He competed in her in the 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), finishing 5th, becoming the first non-frenchman to finish.
We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we’ll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water!
Subscribe to our channel&track our progress as we release videos about our journey as well as “how to” videos about anything boat related.
Never stop to dream, never stop to sail!

Bravo!! Ben fatto! Bella musica, bella location e bellissimo boom in fibra di carbonio.
Soon you shall be living the beautiful dream.
A great series of videos on the boom, well worth the wait. Seeing guys dropping by during the repair reminds me of boat yard days with my Dad so many great characters and stories. Sure she’s sailing well.
Wow! Crazy large layup! I get anxious just watching! I always worry about catalyzation time! I love hearing Timo's accent every week.
Do carbon masts have service limits?
Enjoyed watching the lay up process of Carbon Fibre, not seen it done on site before as it were. Certainly gives you confidence in its strength
Did this repair make the boom longer?
Jo, if Timo ever leaves you, it will clearly be for something made out of carbon fiber! I have never seen someone so in love with a material. Good to see you both back in the water and underway, in your natural habitat.
It will great to see your efforts come together out on the ocean. Your voice overs are very clear so thanks from a happy Dunedin Kiwi but now 40 years in Japan.
That first sail had to be immensely satisfying!! I can hardly wait to be taken along!!😃❤️
Belissimo mes amis.
Nice.. there's nothing fanculo about that boom repair.. 😉🙂👍
Come fa ad essere così lunga la catalisi e avere tempo di mettere tutti questi strati? Cmq complimenti per il lavoro.
OHHHHHHH THE BABY GOES FAST!
Che bello intravedere il sorriso di Jo recuperando quella drizza, per qualche breve secondo! E Timo timonare con due dita…
English-Italian language is so enjoyable !
