Regional Aust will be ‘absolutely devastated’ by closure of coal-fired power stations

Nationals MP Keith Pitt says regional Australia will be “absolutely devastated” when coal-fired power stations are closed.

Mr Pitt says, “a lot of Australia’s coal-fired fleet are quite young” and have “decades to run”.

“The flow-on effects to regional economies are just horrible,” Mr Pitt told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

  2. Can see a U-turn in this as like in the UK, all of this is for the rich to get richer as this climate activism crap is only going to backfire as all want to do less work and get rich quicker as here in the UK it's not working big style with no coalfired power stations now,
it's just going to cause more job losses and cost more paying people not to work,
This generation now live in Cumberland and in a world of artificial intelligence. and can't wait for end of the earth as they keep blabbing on about, the wokes

  3. Closure of mining that generates huge tax income for Australia is criminal. With this huge revenue from mining what long term country building infrastructure projects have we seen? More dams, a weather proof Bruce Highway etc etc? No. We are pissing away this finite wealth by giving out more free stuff, just like the UK. We should have followed Norways example.

  4. The government needs to build more Centrelink offices for those who will lose their jobs. Labour government needs to abandon the Greens and only then will they be taken seriously.

  5. only thing that will devastate Australia is if China stop buying coal, Iron Ore and other things…and from what I heard..they might if the Liberals ever get over 29% primary vote..lol

  6. Shooting ourselves in the foot is becoming an art form for the left side of politics. Still , being in the city where there is diversity of job opportunities, the post closure job losses and flow on effect to the country towns isn't a problem for them. Having lived through it once and nearly going broke in an industry that is usually economically robust, I am glad that I have now retired. My children, however will all struggle when local industry closes.

  7. Andrew the fossil fuel industry buried their own reports on the effects of fossil fuels on climate back in the 1970s and now they cry poor me.
BP start on the solar system back in the late 1990s.
And the LNP stuck their heads in the sand way back to John Howard s time.

  8. Actually, the whole of Australia will be devastated when the power goes out. Woke lefties wont be able to charge their iphones (made by slave labour in China), and no more cafe lattes, as small businesses collapse and don't have power anyway.

  9. I don't think that the city folk understand, the destitution that they are imposing on Australia. The economic devastation will start with the country, and rapidly flow to the cities, where people are more vulnerable to poverty, and less self sufficient.

  11. So Matt Kean wants to replace Earing power station with an untested 500MWH battery. Thats right 500 Mw for one hour. Earing produces 2880 MW per hour. And can produce that for 24/7 365 days a year. So the real output is 24 * 2880 which is 69120MWH . Geese Mr Kean your battery is a little underdone and where prey tell will it be charged?

  13. Canberra is just a terrorist organisation when you consider the criminal activity on how they spend taxpayers dollars, blowing 10,s of billions on redundant or expired military hardware, give way billions of dollars as donations overseas, grovel to WEF, G20, NWO, IMF, the UN, and the list goes on. Ranga, Gillard should be in jail and yet nothing has happened, she stole 18 million dollars from taxpayers and gave it to the very corrupt H Clinton foundation. Canberra needs pulling down and the parties dissolved and retiremnet packages all cancelled. We the taxpayers run this country, not politicians, not governments, THEY are mere adminstrators for our taxpayers dollars.

  14. "We can be a renewable energy superpower,” said Australia’s 31st prime minister, Anthony Albanese, in his victory speech on election night. That might very well be true. But the fact is that Australia doesn't want to burn Coal, but is happy to make billions of dollars a year exporting it to other country's for them to burn.

China is among the five top countries with the most lithium resources and it has been buying stakes in mining operations in Australia and South America where most of the world’s lithium reserves are found. Lithium is used for battery's. The mining of it is not good for the environment. I can't help but think that this talk of Australia being a "renewable energy superpower" is nothing more then a big virtue signalling piece of BS. It ignores the fact that the world runs on oil and other material obtained from mining. I wish it didn't. But thats the reality.

The Australian mining industry amounts to 75% of the country's exports, contributes significantly to Australia's workforce and is a leading influence on Australia's economy. Even the Australian Bureau of statistics tells us how bad mining is. https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/90a12181d877a6a6ca2568b5007b861c/ce28d7fbe5faa308ca256cae0015da32!OpenDocument
This eco stuff is all smoke and mirrors for the government. If we shut down the mining industry, because its bad for the environment, then we will be back to living in caves. Because the mining industry not only provides us with all the nasty stuff (like Coal) that the Greenies hate. But also the materials that are used in technology's that the Greenies like. Electric cars, Solor panels etc.

  15. I thought the vast majority of coal mined in the Hunter goes to export through the port of Newcastle, not so much to power stations. No plans to reduce exports. Give the whole picture, SKY, don't mislead. Go to maitland and watch the huge export coal trains go by, or see the massive coal loaders at kooragang.

  16. It is shaping up to the scenario that this Labor government will wreck the Australian economy and it will impoverish the middle classes. This government just won't take any informed advice and instead bulldoze their way forward with it warped extreme-Leftist ideological agenda.
