Loved this movie!
I’ve always wondered how they did that effect!
well now I want to see his artwork
It's amazing how much ingenuity and effort goes into a practical effect that the audience only sees on screen for a couple of seconds.
Doughboy swimming pool, V8 engines, a feed auger… and lots of popcorn. That is Real Genius.
I'm hugely fascinated by special effects and how they're accomplished, and Real Genius is one of my favorite movies. Thanks Piercefilms for collecting all of these interviews, I've been watching through all these since The Algorithm suggested your Hunt for Red October videos last week. Your channel is a treasure of special effects oral tradition. It's a tragedy that miniatures and practical effects are becoming a dying breed, and modern movies are worse for their loss. Thank you for posting these.
A well spoken artist and craftsman , i can't get enough of these guys , unsung heroes
It is a shame sometimes when you see how much effort they go to to make certain effects and things happen and the movie ends up not being good or flopping
DAMN IT MAN START AN ART FILM AND ANIMATION (2D 3D) STUDIO!
Great hearing about what he’s up to now and how he’s still evolving the skills he picked up doing effects work. Fantastic post as always!
I saw this movie as a kid in the 80s but Never thought or realized the amount of work it took to see that much popcorn in the movie
Fascinating information! Nicely explained too.
I've always loved this channel…and now it's covering my favorite movie! 🍿 🍿 🍿
Giant popcorn poppers 🤣 Awesome.
When doing media archive research on Real Genius, one YouTube commenter remembers that there was a Behind the Scenes mini doc by HBO regarding the PopCorn scene that HBO aired back in 1985 or 1986. I searched and searched for it and still am not able to find the footage so perhaps it was shown on CineMax if anyone can confirm.
I'm so glad to see stuff about real genius even today!
Pete Gerard is the coolest! Guy must be a wealth of knowledge. That popcorn scene looks insane.
It's your moral imperative! 😛
This is incredible and one of my favorite moments in movie history.
Great stuff before Cg, when people had to figure things out.
I really can't believe that they actually popped that much corn to make that scene — that's incredible! Love that movie!
Somebody Get That Man A Big Fat Paycheck.
