Sitrep’s looking this week into the future of the Army with its new head warning the UK has three years to be ready to deter conflict or fight a war.
General Sir Roly Walker’s talked about an “increasingly volatile world” but he said war isn’t inevitable and Britain has “just enough time to prepare”.
He says he wants to double the Army’s fighting power in three years – and triple it by the end of the decade and he’s stressed the need to modernise quickly using technology like AI.
Sitrep will be asking how achievable his plans are? And what would they mean for soldiers and how they fight?
And in the latest of our series about key events in people’s lives, we hear about the moment that made Andrew Fox after 8 years in the Army… passing P-Company to earn his maroon beret and become a Para.
Kate Gerbeau presents, with expert analysis from Professor Michael Clarke.

Could we send in all the illegal migrants first as the first wave?
Puppets of the US Empire, it's murderous, thieving Global empire, butchering millions of people over the years for profit…. blood money and Merc's looking the other way knowing the truth.
I believe that one of Britain's biggest mistakes in equipping British forces is Britain's obsession with selling off her old weapons. Many of these weapons such as scorpion tanks have ended up in Ukraine.
Unfortunately what the Ukraine war has shown is that Russia is prepared to loose as many tanks as Britain's entire tank fleet every month in Ukraine. Recently Russia has burned through virtually their entire stocks of T70 tanks and is now mostly using T62 tanks in Ukraine. In reality these T62 tanks are just as effective as T70 tanks.
If Britain still had all of the Challenger 1 tanks that they sold to Jordan then then the British army could similarly resort to using Challenger 1 tanks if the Challenger 2 tanks were used up. The argument has been made that there is no point in keeping old tanks because there would be no crews to operate them. These Challenger 1 tanks could be operated by conscripts which is how Russia is finding enough new crews for their T62 tanks.
The poorest decision that Britain made about Challenger 2 tanks was the decision to shut down the production line for the unique shells used by the Challenger 2. This means that even if Challenger 2 tanks miraculously survived encounters with Russia they would still become unusable when the shells ran out.
Now sll the kids are Sharpshooters, learnt playing War games on their PS4's , you've got enough to start it in 6months never mind 3 years! We need to build up our Armaments after giving ours to Ukraine. Sor Europe, protect our own shores for start. Get the Army practising on the beaches down South stopping the illegal immigrants coming over in their boats after all, that war has been going on for years and we LOST that one big time, still are!! Sort that out first then Conscription. Every 18 year old to do 3 years. They'd learn respect thats for sure!
I served for twelve years in thos twelve years my unit both of them was never fully upto streangth in manpower .my work was very physical whitch after two weeks in the field lead to physical lost of streangth and stamina . Most times the equipment I worked on was varsity understreangth from six men where there should of been thirteen . Our resuply was a joke for each piece of Ordinance we should have five vehicals which needed a manpower of two to three . Because we never had that we could not practess real time resupply. Lets put it plainly with a detachment of seven on Lionehart one there was a time when the equipment was maned by two men the others haveing to work on other jobs such as NBC sentry position sentry QRF and manual adjusting ammunition from one pice of equipment to another , sounds simple but you can not go from Ato B in a straight line to six points carrying heavey load pluss your owen personal equipment . The sub unit is supposed to have four hundred men we never had more than one hundred and sixty
Why is the sound so very bad?
England / Uk defence spending should be at 3%!
Defend our borders first , against invasion of Islamic Jihad Army…!!!
Great respect for British Army !!!
Great! 3 years to live!
We won't be ready in ten years never mind three
Spend on defence….only deterrence..we got..
Primed ready if called upon …3 years…get it sorted
Looking at Finlands strategic.

This new rail gun produced by Japan is it legit? Or just an AI fake?
Head of army predicts war ie I want more money maybe we need to spend less on pomp and ceremony . For a start
The United States and its allies are getting dragged deeper into the conflict in Ukraine by sending their military instructors since the Ukrainians don’t want to die on the frontline for Western geopolitical interests, Russia’s UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya, said.
"Given the total unwillingness of Ukrainians to fight and die for Western geopolitical interests, the United States and its allies are being drawn deeper and deeper into the conflict, sending not only mercenaries but also instructors to that country," Nebenzya said.
"They, of course, become legitimate targets for the Russian Aerospace Forces. As a result, the West sees increasingly more obituaries of high-ranking military officers who disappeared while walking in the mountains or died suddenly of a heart attack," he told a UN Security Council meeting.
Dozens of foreign servicemen on active service are dying in Ukraine, the permanent representative said. "We warned about such a scenario and repeatedly cautioned our Western colleagues about its consequences. So far, not all of them have realized the real state of affairs on the front and the future of Ukraine as a state in case this conflict has a military solution," Nebenzya added.
Why dont we just concentrate of defence of the country and stop trying to get involved in other peoples conflicts.
If people stop fighting on behalf of sick politicians how are they gonna be able to spread death and destruction?
I recon we need more diversity… that will defo square us off.
Expect my brotherto go to war in old rust bucket Landrover FFR which always needs a push start 😂.
Listening to kate i forgot this was'nt times radio for a second
The reality is no one wants to get shot for living on this island, it’s not worth it, where will the people come from Britain has no population left, rather let a change of government happen than defend it. Patriotism died when a percentage of the population died by repeated buggery in pub car parks via animal poison, absolutely no chance of conscription the nation is a disgrace. Only an idiot would defend Britain these days✌️❤️🇬🇧
what is going on with the constant talk of war on this channel? war with whom?
70,000 "A medium sized army". So double it would assume a large sized army. Yet russia has placed over 600,000 in Ukraine so far with very many more available. 🤔 Medium sized i would argue it's hardly a tiny sized army.
Why does it sound like you recorded someone's television? 😂😂
I hope all these doctors and engineers are join us if we all have go because personally if they are allowed to stay I don't think many people will go
In the eighties in BAOR we had crash out, had to be ready for war in 4 hours. Following the Wall coming down all governments saw an opportunity to save money and cut the size of armies beyond belief
The pretend General of a pretend army over the top of pretend soldiers of a pretend country says that they need to be ready for a war in 3 years except Wars are real with real dead real suffering really crippled people I don't think the pretend prime minister's ready for that
Need army numbers back to 155,000 many more infantry regiments
Ready for war in 3 years , we need more then 3 year to rebuild the military and get good amount of air defence, go
War with Russia or any other nuclear power is madness and crazy no one wins
C'mon labour/green voters! 🤣
Whoooooo! I hope they will be ready 😁 should have voted reform.. sorry I'm not lgbtq enough for war
