OMG he's so cute and huge. He's gotten so much bigger ❤

IS THAT A CHB JERSEY
I adored some of the changes they made in the show, the way Charlie portrays Luke is amazing and how the relationship between them is a bond which makes the betrayal hurt more. I agree with the emphasis on how they made Luke and Annabeth seem more like siblings and I don’t particularly like when people mention the end of book five when Luke says “do you love me?” people say it’s weird but I see it as more of a him wondering if she still loves him like a brother or if she still cares for him 😭😭. Loved the changes with medusa, it shows more depth and how misunderstood she is sometimes. Season 1 is amazing and an adaptation cannot 100% adapt the book and people will complain no matter what, I do agree with the real constructive criticism is it being too dark which I agree on — most of the criticism I’ve seen is toward the actors looks, especially the fact that annabeth is black. Rick chose Leah herself and Leah is an amazing annabeth, I loved her acting on the show. I value personality and how they portray the characters so much more. Anyways sorry for the big rant 😭😭
I also love Lin as Hermes. I think people underestimate him so much just cuz he can be a little goofy at times. He’s still a great actor and an amazing choice for Hermes!
Even tho the show has some flaws which thankfully could be fixed in future seasons, i loved it. But what bothers me is the way people criticize the show and act like it's an abomination and it failed the high expectations. Like no, it's not that bad, it was good, not quite great as i hope in the future. But haters are gonna hate. Very excited for season 2 tho
I just noticed your camp half blood necklace hanging on your bookcase. Nice.
People overlook book flaws, and are a 1000 times more critical of stuff that comes out when they're not kids anymore. They just accept things like Luke's inconsistent goals,Tyson not having the hair or eye color of his father and brother.Rhe fleece having healing power that is never used to save someone again. And of course, progressive concepts like the children of battle and warfare gods being girls with the boys being an afterthought.
So me and my brother watched the PJO show together (I watched it before him but whatever) he isn’t a big PJO fan like I am. So by the time we were on the 4th episode I asked him who do u think is the thief and he straight up looked at me and said “I think it might be Annabeth” and am just trying to keep a straight face here. This is my older brother ppl. But anyway he went on to think it was Ares then blah blah till the big Luke reveal but now he’s mad that he has to wait for season two. Mission complete: successfully made my bro a PJO fan kinda, he still hasn’t read the books (Meanwhile am on the fifth book am going strong)✌️
I also agree with your takes on how they did Luke, really gave him more depth and Charlie’s portrayal was so good. Loved the changes of episode 5,was really good and people criticize over the littlest things in the show and can’t seem to see that if the show was to adapt almost everything part of the book then it would be boring. I’ve loved the changes made so far and I can’t wait to see what’ll be different in Season 2 and hopefully will lead to a potential Season 3❤ the channel
35:54 I would also like to add that I think another complaint that fits in this category are people saying that Percy was out of character because he was too serious and not funny enough. When I reread the book, it struck me how depressed, stoic and quiet he was, and I feel that this is in large part due to how he was dealing with the loss of his mom and being thrust into this strange new world. He’s not going around cracking jokes and being the class clown. I feel that many people are forgetting how most of the humor comes from Percy’s narration, and show Percy is how he would look to everyone who cannot hear his thoughts. I feel that a re-read of “Sea of Monsters” would show him, comparably, a lot more outwardly humorous since he’s used to everything and he has his Mom back.
7:41 I think the musical also portrayed Grover very interestingly; in Tree on the Hill you can see his loyalty and care for Annabeth, Luke, and Thalia and his immense guilt because of Thalia’s death (Tree on the Hill is also a brilliant way to show Grover’s character, Thalia’s backstory, and the impact it has on Grover all at once)
I don't really have a super hot take, but one of my strongest takes is that I think some of the most vocal complainers/criticizers would have complained about season 1 regardless or how good/bad it was. Some of the criticisms I've seen on social media (from the people who talk about how season 1 was terrible), give off the vibe that they were genuinely expecting the show to be an exact copy of the book with absolutely zero differences.
Me encanta, muy buen video 🙌🙌
This channel is the absolute best
As a blonde woman who connected to Annabeth's character as a kid because of how much I hated the "dumb blonde" stereotype, your point about how black women are stereotyped the same way by an even greater amount is exactly my feelings about the live action casting. The point of her blonde hair was to make a certain demographic feel good about themselves so why is it an issue that they changed it if that still rings true? In an even more meaningful way too. Also most of the people who have an issue with Annabeth not being blonde probably aren't even blonde themselves.
the point about the books themselves being imperfect is SO TRUE. i get that the books came first- it’s literally been over a decade since i read the lightning thief for the first time- but to act like they are PERFECT and would be compelling when adapted 1:1 is nuts. the chapters “i play pinochle with a horse” all the way to “i blow up a perfectly good bus” would be SO ANNOYING if they were translated 1:1 on screen bc of how no one actually tells percy anything. also you’d need to give percy an internal monologue for a 1:1 translation to be meaningful, and that’d not only get old FAST, but it would also defeat the purpose of the 3rd person perspective.
on the point about the kids knowing too much, i frankly prefer it. i’m supposed to believe sally told percy stories about greek mythology. annabeth’s been at camp since she was seven. this is the only world grover knows. they SHOULD be able to clock suspicious stuff easily😭 it’s forgivable in TLT because they’re still rookies on their first quest, but it still makes way more sense for them to be able to guess at what they’re walking into.
this was a great video! i love hearing from people who loved the tv show. thank you for sharing 🫡
Hi Cam! I first off just want to clarify that I adore your channel and you’re definitely one of my favourite channels to watch that focuses on PJO. It’s one of my all-time favourite series and being able to watch this series is a ginormous gift. I couldn’t be happier that it exists.
I do have some of my own “hot takes” about the show and I hope they aren’t too harsh. I want to emphasize that I don’t think the show is bad and that it isn’t worth watching. I immensely enjoyed watching it as it was airing but I did come away with some more neutral and slightly-negative opinions.
1. The show watered down the story so much and I’m worried that it’s setting a precedent for the upcoming season. I don’t think the show should intentionally stray away from appealing to a very young audience but I do feel that they drained the story of so many different details and layers. They took out a lot of the emotional undercurrent from the series. Run-time and episode lengths are some of the show’s most pressing issues. I wish that they approved a 10-episode season with 50-minute run-times. I think that would have given them so much more room to explore the world and bring it to life. The story just feels so much more subdued than I expected it to. I understand that budget restraints and creative restraints exist but I just wish that they could’ve found a middle ground.
2. Rick being involved as much as he is might cause major narrative issues down the line. He’s been adamant that he wants to prioritize a very young audience as that is the audience of the original series. I don’t think this is a mistake. Aiming the show towards children is something that I always thought Rick should do as alienating the target audience would go against his entire ethos. I don’t expect him to prioritize an older audience. What I am concerned about is everything that was sacrificed in order to keep the show appropriate enough for those of very young ages. The original series has a bite and an edge to it that wasn’t very apparent in the majority of the first season’s episodes. I’m worried that this approach is going to cause issues once we get to certain storylines. The series is so layered with so many complexities but I’m concerned that the writers are going to strip these complexities if they are deemed as inappropriate. Intentionally watering the content down even more just seems like a flawed choice. The book series is already for children. Children also don’t need to be told such sanitized stories. They can handle darker and more complex stories and themes. The original series – as it is – is extremely kid-friendly but the show shied away from those nuanced complexities. The entire story is very much “made for kids” but the underlying themes and darker plotlines don’t exactly scream “kid-friendly”. The show feels like it made a lot of changes that make it appear as being “made for kids” rather than being “kid-friendly”. I think that they should’ve undertaken different approaches to this as sanitizing the story as much as they did is just doing a disservice to the original series. I don’t see why they had to tone the story down to make it appeal to a young audience. The story is essentially about child warriors who often die before reaching adulthood and that was very sanitized in the new series.
3. The show’s production value is lacking. I wish the colour-grading was different than it is. It just felt flat and a bit hollow at times. I hope that they are able to utilize different cameras and commit to more ambitious camera work and angles. The cinematography could’ve been so much more exciting and epic than it was.
