35 and still goth it up when I'm feeling it – though I do tone it way down professionally. I wore cat ears and a tail in high school and never gave a fk what people thought of how I dressed, and that's still very much my vibe.. just less so when I'm taking care of people's grandparents, y'know?
I love watching you grow, and you still make me proud, babe <3
hi pixie!! love the new video c: I'm one of your Rainbow Babe patrons and was wondering if I could get my name changed on the end credits. it's my cringe maiden name ππ I tried messaging you on patreon but idk if you see those.
Off topic I'm so memorized by your make up in this video, would u ever do a tutorial for this look? π
"many many years ago…5 or 6" lmao
Watched you since 2014 when I was 15 years old, I am 25 now, so that makes it 10 years! I still dress alternatively and have been rocking the same green bowl-cut for 4 years. I am in graduate school now but worked as an occupational therapist for 7 months after my undergraduate. My alternative style a big part of my identity and it might make it more likely that I will be rejected a job. My experience is though that the jobs that will accept me are simply just a better fit and will make me feel that much more comfortable to show up everyday!
10 years in august? I've been watching you the whole way through that means! I've always loved watching you because you're only like three months older than me so its more like pals. (rip for the mild parasocial there)
I work at a retirement home and I have unnatural colourful hair,7 facial piecings, 1 inch streached ears and some large visible tattoos and i have been absolutely blown away with the amount of residents that tell me they love my colourful hair or even complements on my tattoos and piercings. Even some of the residents have blue or pink or purple hair and its so freaking cute to see the little old ladies rocking the fun colourful hair! There are residents that still show up for dinner in a full face of makeup, hair done, wearing a sparkily pink blazer and matching slippers because thats who they are and thats what they love. I cant wait to be a weird old lady covered in tattoos telling the young people about my life! At the end of the day as long as your not hurting others who the heck cares? Wear what makes you happy because life is too short to be dressing for other people's approval
pixie I LOVED this. I really did grow up with yβall and I really really would love more videos like this if youβre comfortable!! Love love love β€οΈπ§‘πππ©΅ππ
Okay thoughts:
1. u can say with a touch of the tism hahah
2. I think u sound more nervous bc u were still a kid man! You defs sound more comfortable in front of the camera now but I can still watch your old vids no problem π«Άπ»
3. Um hold on, I am here for a pixie census??
4. My fave fashion color hair dye brand is Danger Jones atm, but theyβre unfortunately pro (only as far as I know)π₯² itβs soooo pigmented tho omg, I adore it
Wonderful video as always, thanks for enduring it for us π
The quote from the random person saying " YOU MAKE ME SMILE " made me laugh so hard. π π π
I have sooo many thoughts but I have to say what really gets me about the (persisting!) "16?? Aren't you a little old to be dressing like that?" is like… when would I ever have gotten to dress like this before? Most parents would NOT let their kiddo have rainbow hair, sorry! Where I'm from, any kid in public school couldn't dye their hair or have a "distracting" hair style or outfit, or piercings, or gauges. And when you're finally old enough to have the autonomy (and $$) to do it yourself you're "too" old. It's almost like they just need to admit they don't like how you dress and would never think it's okay and move on with their own business. π
Omg i remember that video haha. I found u i think through Sharla or Sophie when you were in Japan the first time, and then i went back and watched all your videos and became obsessed, and then in one you were like "im 19 now" and i felt silly because i thought we were the same age (im currently 33 so however old i was then lol). ANYWAY i love that you never gave up on the rainbow inside you. Also i remember that sweet jean jacket!!
Okay, long comment, so apologies ahead of time! Iβm closer to 36 now, but I got a chance to start watching your videos in 2020 and I remember watching that video in the beginning when looking at past videos! That being said, I was not able to dye my hair for the first time until 2021 (i had wanted to dye it for 20 years before that). My reasoning for finally taking the plunge came after a series of traumatic moments that reminded me that life is short, wear the clothes you want. I work in apparel, but a lot of the time was in a corporate office setting and if anybody had an issue with my rainbow hair or pastel clothes, they never said anything to me. Especially because I did my job extremely well. Rather, the people that actually spoke up always said how happy they were to see me. Even if they had been watching me for weeks walk around, they always said it made them so happy to see color and brightness in an otherwise dull office setting where even the most creative people opted for neutral street wear (which also looks amazing). In any case, I loved your video then, I love it now, and I canβt wait to see you do a retrospective in your 30s!! π©·πβ¨
Me about to turn 30 and my most viewed video being a crayon melting video at 9:45 : ποΈπποΈ
I love this! I also am terrified of aging because Im scared that that means I can no longer be myself.
I'm a few years older than you and I dress cute/alt. You're never too old! β¨ππππ€π©·
I'm 34… Still dressing alternatively. I started in 6th grade (roughly 11/12), it wasn't a phase! People who know me ( and a lot that don't) appreciate it. Now that I'm older, people don't specifically pick on me…. which is nice! I also work in an office, totally run by ladies who love the way I dress. Love that, and completely see my privilege in it. I've also worked in places where I had to wear uniforms and hated it! I have been watching your videos for so long, and remember you posting this! Get it bean. Much love all around.
i would actually love to participate in a pixielocks census, i love to fill out a lil form or questionnaire
"I'm not gonna throw whimsy out the door" great quote
It hasn't been 7 years. It simply hasn't. Time can't be real. (This was a blast from the past, really enjoyed it. Great vid!!!!!!)
Pixie, as being the same age as me I appreciate you pushing thorough the somatic sensations of the anxiety to talk about this. Being an alt adult it is so hard to cope with age an expression. Thank you for intellectualizing this.
i remember watching this as a high schooler when it came out and this era of pixie got me into jfashion and embracing hyper femininity :3 and now i'm watching you react to it in my uni bedroom with pink hair and a whole jfashion wardrobe! so heartwarming <333
This made me surprisingly emotional omg. Ive been a confetti club member for at least 7 years!! And you definitely influenced me and my style massively… ive grown from someone who tried to fit in as best as possible to someone who wears all the colors of the rainbow and diys alot of my accessories and clothes! it really is all about what makes you happy and it does spread happiness to those who are open to it <3
The period video genuinely changed my life – I still use that app
I wonder what you would look like with natural brown hair?
Thank u for this video its been little dificlt me at 33 years working with my style cuz i love dressing up with bright colors.
οΏΌ
This is some advanced navel gazing.
I remember when you uploaded this video and I loved seeing you approach the ideas again with more life experience and wisdom. I am 33 now and I am a teacher so I was forced to have βnaturalβ hair but I try to use the fun colours and sneak in fun accessories but following the dress code (of lengths and fabrics). Honestly the kids are absolutely mesmerised when I wear fun accessories, itβs so adorable to see the reactions. Or when I have fun eyeshadow colours that match the outfits it blows their minds!
("don't say the 'tism") XD
i absolutely love your hairstyle in this video~!
I have dressed alternative for a long time and have tried to work it into my business wardrobe as much as I can, but as I have gotten older I have actually upped my style because I care less about making others happy and more about making my self happy. I saw a new Dr. recently who liked the Rockco's Modern Life socks I had on and she told me to never take myself too seriously, and I mean those are doctors orders! π»
Actually, a lot of offices these days are okay with you having whatever hair color you want. Most office work isn't customer facing and often will let you dress as you please in this day and age as long as it is "business casual" but thats such a loose term. Basically don't be wearing skimpy clothing or makeup that is basically face paint and they'll be okay with it a lot of the time. Its been moving in that direction for awhile now and its very prevalently the case now.
I've found more adverse reactions in fast food and customer facing positions to such a thing. They have more rules at the average fast food joint for your clothes than an office typically. And a lot of it is because they're afraid of their customers having a sour opinion of the store over what someone looks like. If its a non customer facing job, they care a lot less.
My first Pixie Video was that one whit the magical girl wands haha loving her since <3
idk if you're ever spoken on this but have you ever considered going to like an NYFW?
I've been following you for at least 6 years now, and as other people allready have commented, it'd so fun to grow up with you and see all the changes you've been through! I started to watch your videos because I really admired your style, but I stayed because I loved to see someone my own age do stuff you loved and beeing just really exited about it! And also trying new stuff and going to fashionschool and everything involved with reaching your goals as an artist, but also through mental health. You always bring me so much joy and hope!π
i canβt believe iβm now the same age as the pixie i started watching 7 years ago. loved growing up here π©·
I actually remember watching that video the day you posted it ! π I'm also 26 now and still dressing alternative. The walk down memory lane was lovely π
Pixiiieee, can we please get a makeup tutorial on this look!! It's super pretty and cute!! π₯°πππ
I would actually love to partake in a confetti club census and would LOVE to see the stats
To me "flattering" mainly says normatively beautiful. It is something I try hard to work against because me and people around me are constantly being harmed by those skinny(ED-d), white, eurocentric, cishet and ableist ideals. To some degree they are also about being sellable which is another whole can of fried worms.
both 19 and 26 are so young, I'm 33 and just started dressing how I like, and I plan on doing so until I'm 83, if I make it that far lol
life is too short not to.
I love that you look like an elevated more mature and evolved version of the 19 year old you. you've developed your style so well, and you have matured! in the best possible way! ππ
I have been the alt-fashion dual lifer for years – do I wish I could be my best self all the time? Yes. Do I need to be "taken seriously" in my line of work? Yes, if I am not it could really impact other people's lives… so, free time colourful rainbow j-fashion lover it is. Doesn't make us any less valid in the community – even though it can feel that way sometimes <3
Gosh I'm getting so much nostalgia for this, I think this video was one of the earliest videos of yours I saw! I do also really like 'I'm in the prime of my life to dress dumb' I think that's actually a very sweet sentiment ππ
Love hearing baby pixie defend 30 year olds as a current 30 year old. π Would absolutely fill out a census! So cool to have seen you grow and evolve through the years!! πβ¨
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 happy to have followed you all this time!! LMAO
