  2. The LIghts of Zetar freaked me out as a kid. Also, I never understood why all these Scotty episodes talked about him being so old and portrayed him as so unstable around women. Big pet peeve of mine.

  3. Court, you didn't say if you liked That Which Survives. / Just once and only for The Lights of Zetar, I wish Shatner could have taken a back seat and allowed Richard Pryor to guest star as Captain Kirk. The scene where the woman on the floor is croaking and changing colours could have been greatly improved with this dialogue from Pryor: ''Girl, what you croakin' at?! Some devilish croakin' at that! Get off da floor and wash yo ass, b*tch! G' downstairs and help yo' Mama straighten out da front room — weez is havin' company!''

As they are, no doubt, aware. But as long as its molecular structure is H2O, they can filter out any toxins, and human beings can survive much longer without food than without water.

  5. Hey Courtney, you show some determination going through every episode. I can't join you on these but I'm watching to see when you get to good episodes. Cheers.

  6. My step-father was a classmate of Lee Ann Meriwether in high school, and apparently they did not get along. When she entered the Miss America pageant, he told his friends he would eat his hat if she won. When she won, they held him to his promise.

It was good to see Dr. M'Benga again.

Poor Scotty keeps putting himself between women and the baddies. He was zapped by Apollo and Nomad. And the women either kept it professional with him, or they dumped him by the following week. He confirms that simping is a high-risk/low-reward endeavor. After both of these episodes, he earned himself some serious benders.

Memory Alpha is the name of the wiki dedicated to Trek fans. It contains strictly canon info from the series and movies produced by the franchise. Contains many spoilers.

  7. In THE LIGHTS OF ZATAR (or SCOTTY FALLS FOR A MARTIAN) Kirk says that no natural phenomenon can travel faster than the speed of light. It has since been discovered that quasars travel many times faster than the speed of light.

  8. Courtney, they were setting D'Amato's tricorder to broadcast a distress signal.

This would act as a beacon which a Federation ship (or other spaceship) could home in on and rescue the landing party.

  9. The Zetar episode was never one of my faves
That which survives is interesting and a unique way of killing. But that is also one of that episodes weaknesses. Mostly because you couldn't actually show such a gruesome death on tv then. If every cell had been blasted. Each man would have been reduced to a bloody pulp. 😵

  10. Cool reaction. Some trivia, Watkins was played by Kenneth Washington who was in a show known as hogan's heroes which was popular around the same time Star Trek was on TV in the 60s. He's the last surviving cast member from that show. He was was also Whitney's dad in an episode of A Different World. While the woman Lieutenant Rahda, Spock was being a bit rude to was played by Naomi Pollack who also played the native woman who married kirk when he lost his memory in The Paradise Syndrome episode a couple of reactions back.

    1. I really didn't care much for this one. I was a child when I first saw this so, it seemed to be three steps forward, two steps back.
    2. Spock was OTR.
    3. Scotty was too ready to give it all up at first, then was the hero.
    3. Is it just me, but that's the most uncomfortable resting position ever.🙄
    "The Lights of Zetar"
    1. This was a middle of the road episode for me.
    2. It seems to me than when my drinking buddy Scotty falls in love/lust he goes all the way.
    "Who mourns for Adonias".

  12. Mira was under a lot of pressure to perform as this was her first assignment, the federation would be a gigantic government agency on earth, but not everybody gets to be in star fleet. Mira's attitude towards Dr. McCoy is understandable as anything that he officially logs about her attitude and behavior is going to be reviewed by star fleet. And also is part of her permanent record. Naturally she will be evasive and apprehensive. Certain things about her personality that makes her behave this way (Her stubbornness for one, as well as well as her pliant response to new learning situations…) is what makes her a match to the Zatarians.
