Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart – PC Max vs PS5 vs PC Very Low – First Look



NOTE: At the eight minute mark, the RX 570 is compared to the PS4 – we meant PS4 Pro. The RX 570 has 32 GCN compute units, similar to the PS4 Pro GPU, but runs at with higher clocks.

We received an advance build Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on PC ahead of time, but with not enough time available to do a complete analysis. So here, we take a look at the PC version at max and minimum specs on appropriate hardware and stack it up against the PlayStation 5 version running in its performance RT mode.

I hope you people can try to mimic the PS5 visuals/resolution the best you can on PC, then show to us what GPU can reach those standards (of course, it's all theoretical if this GPU can survive the entire PS5 cycle or not, but at least it give us an idea). My wild guess is that the PS5 runs this game at medium settings, low ray tracing, 4k + super sampling in 30fps (the "fidelity mode")… and the "performance mode" should be the same medium settings, no ray tracing, 1440p + super sampling in 60fps (in both scenarios, I guess the resolution is "dynamic", not really set). So… a RX 6700 XT can do the job?

  2. Wow. The PlayStation to PC port struggle continues. Alex is running computer made for NASA and the game looks better *on the PS5 version. A bit shocked. Now I just have to watch Alex's video pc only performance review. This was a lot of fun guys! Cheers! 🍻

I played through this game after watching this video, and when they test the three different setups at this point 52:05 on Blizar Prime I noticed that my pc was only doing about as well as Rich's low spec beast (though I have a 5800X3D and a RTX 4070Ti) when switching between dimensions. After poking around a bit with settings the culprit seems to be having frame generation (DLSS 3) enabled. Disabling DLSS 3 gave me results much more like Alex.

  4. Why the heck did you pick the settings you guys did? No Fidelity mode using 120hz display with VRR for the PS5 version, which is how it's supposed to be played to show off the graphics (and the game is perfectly playable like thisβ€”the only time I switch to perf is in the arena on higher difficulties)? Fuck, I would have liked to see what my actual framerate is when playing in Fidelity in 120hz VRR.

    And what the hell is with using DLSS on a 4090? Rift Apart was made for an AMD APU, so a 4090 should be more than enough for this on max settings without resorting to magic. You should compare pure rasterized performance, especially since you're comparing it to a console and an old, weak AMD GPU.
