From the NES to the Playstation 5, Switch and Xbox, rare games becoming liquid assets that hypebeasts treat like crypto or NFTs and that totally sucks. No one should have to pay more than original retail for a video game but HERE WE ARE. SO I’m taking a look at a few the Rare and Expensive and even obscure video games that have caught my eye in recent times. Emulate, baybay.

    QUESTION OF THE DAY!
What are some rare and/or expensive games that you'd consider your "holy grail"? Y'all know mine, I wanna hear yours!

  2. I really wish that I'd brought Chibi-robo and Panzer Dragoon Saga when they was still somewhat afforadable… problem is I was somewhat brassic at the time so splurging on second hand games was out of the question.
TBH I would love Switch ports of both, Chibi-robo would be a big hit with the Switch crowd and Panzer Dragoon Saga has never officially been on anything but the saturn so it could be a decent seller

  3. Technically if you've ever bought the game that you downloaded the ROM of on the internet it's not illegal to play because when you purchase a game your purchasing the license to play said game. You may have gotten the ROM from someone that illegally distributed it online but it's still legal for you play it. Just a little tidbit for them neigh sayers out there, them anti-emulation freaks. Also FYI that's how it works here in the states I don't know about other countries.

  4. About 2 years ago I really wanted to play Chibi Robo again and was shocked by the price when I checked it online. By some wild stroke of luck though within 2 weeks I found someone selling a lot of gamecube games on Craigslist for $15 and it was in the mix. It has all the inserts as well. I don't want to sell it though, because I know I'll want to play it again at some point and Nintendo apparently won't rerelease it. I was so excited when they announced it was coming to Wii, but we never got it.

  5. i like watching these and remembering "i think i have that game" and you go dig it out and it still sealed with a clearance sticker on it from the store… maybe i've been collecting too long… maybe i'm getting old…

  6. I love how since I missed the millennial nostalgia wave cuz I'm not 💵💵💵, in order to ever own a lot of this stuff again I now have to hope to outlive my fellow millennials.

  7. I live in Brazil and I have 4 copies of Sonic for Master System, lol. 1 complete, 1 in the box, 2 embed on Master System 3 (which is the Master System 2 in Europe). I will sell them for gold to the gringos.

  8. I'm kicking myself that I didn't put effort into getting my hands on Armored Core games before the Game Awards. I wanted to get them, but they weren't a high priority. Now they're climbing up in price and the scarcity of english copies is very apparent. I did get lucky the other day and snagged Armored Core 4 for 26 dollars, but now I need For Answer, and english copies of that are rare and expensive. Ugh.

  9. Growing up going to retro video game stores and picking up stupid games is a lot more grim watching the ridiculous price hikes i have to deal with in the same stores. The only joy i get out of it is watching a collector who knows nothing about games get scammed, deserved for ruining the market for people who actually play the games.

  10. I had a Saturn for years before it died. And we never got rid of it, or our games so we have (purchased new at release) MKR, Panzer Dragoon Saga, all the Working Design games, and a few others. And imported Radiant Silvergun just after it got released. We don't really have very many other "special" games but I am happy to say we have those.

  11. The master system Sonic isn’t all that rare at all if all you want to do is play it. The only copies that are worth that much are the very limited US releases, and the only difference between this and the much cheaper EU version is a barcode sticker that covers the original EU barcode on the back of the box. That’s literally what is worth the $600. The cartridge is identical to the EU version, it runs at 50 or 60Hz depending on what console you play it on. Even the box inlay is the same. An expensive sticker indeed, maybe people even peeled it off not knowing how much it would become worth! You can simply import it, boxed in the UK I picked this up for £8 this week.

  12. Dear God am I thankful I half ass started collecting years ago, buying things that were 'expensive' at the time, but now just flat out barely exist like PSO 1&2+ on the Gamecube, Kuon on PS2, I keep getting tempted to sell it all, but then the more I look at it, the value of being able to play all this stuff is weirdly worth more than the absurd amount of money people pay for some of this stuff. It's weird how cheap some of this stuff was, and how I just assumed none of it was expensive because until a few years ago, none of it was. Gaming is just horrible all around anymore, for varying reasons.
