  2. @7:50 – cats are S tier – because they are cats. That is all.

@15:50 – Foxes (and Capabara, Chinchilla, Hare and Snowhare) do not nuzzle. The only animals that nuzzle are: cats, guinea pigs, huskies, labrador retrievers, monkeys, and yorkshire terriers. Hares are in fact giant kicking machines, that are usually solitary (or mated pair) unlike bunbuns, which are gregarious nuzzling machines. so is prolly why their nuzzle was removed. Hopefully someone will mod bunbuns into the game as an animal in their own right.

@21:15 – Sadly, Warg can no longer haul. As foor diet, they eat meat, and/or corpses making them still at least A tier if not F tier because they will hunt for themeselves, and can clean up the aftermath of raids – so your pawns won't stress out over seeing corpses everywhere. (It is still prolly better to have one pawn who can haul he corpse away from your main base, or to a corpse freezer for long-term worg chow. You'll need tom to strip the corpses anyway, especially if you are playing with Reclaim Fabric or something.)

  3. in my opinion the most important trait of combat animal is exposable. you need tanky fast growing animal that you can throw away. this is actually very important on hardest difficulty. warg is not the best answer, since 20+days is still to slow and its attack power is too high. keeping a stream of these as ur melee units would have made the raid much much larger. with this in mind the actual s tier combat animal is surprisingly the insects. they dont count toward ur health when not tamed so you can have a insect farm which not only you dont need to feed but produce jelly and meat for you , and they reproduce very fast. all you need to do is add a couple freezer by the exit to the cave , freeze them and tame them and leave the rest to their bussiness. insects are much more tanky than wargs tooxabsolutely the most op combat animal its not even comparable with the rest.

  4. Turtles are so good, I made a colony with over 100 turtles and every grass tile can permanently feed about 3 turtles, I would just create a zone around the raid to get them to attack. They wouldn't kill much but would be an amazing distraction as my 4 pawns would slowly pick off the raid of 25 raiders, and turtles reproduce so quickly I was able to turn off taming completely since I would through them into a meat grinder so frequently that they wouldn't even go wild by the time they died.

  5. Start out with wild boar. Fast breeding and they can survive easier than pigs. Lots of hides and meat for nothing. Then boomaloups. You will soon have too many boomies. What ya gotta do is ship them off on transport pods. Send them to your allies as a gift. Send them to your enemies as a weapon. Third is maybe bison, as a hauler with benefits. I don't really mess with anything else, because the system I use takes zero effort and I like it that way.

  6. Thrumbros are good for a slow, but steady supply of thrumbofur which in itself is an OP material for non-encumbering armor if your setup makes feeding them reasonable. Thrumbos are too slow breeding to use as disposable combat animals. If I have no other means of corpse disposal, wargs are good for that, and pretty good animals to swarm raiders with. Megasloths in very cold biomes for their wool. But I don't play unmodded, with giddyup I only really keep my choice of mounts in the colony and any breeding animals are good enough source for leather. Horses, camels, whatever fits the theme I'm going for.

I don't like having a lot of fast breeding small animals, they take a lot of work to keep the population in check. Many may be efficient resource wise, but not so much for time wise.

  7. Boomalopes are just boomrats with a dietary problem, slow reproduction and an overly extended childhood. Make your own chemfuel with cheap farming materials and get the boomrat. Dietary intake is based on size, so you can feed a LOT more boomrats with the same amount of kibble it takes to sustain even 1 boomalope, and boomrats breed VERY fast (like rats, in fact!). Set a pen over enemy camps when they arrive to get set up, let them swarm out and over the lands. They might night do a ton of damage… or they might kill everyone. Regardless, the enemy will be softened up and demoralized before they even reach you, and it will be good, wholesome fun burning them all alive with exploding animal bombers.

tl:dr Boomrats are the S-tier cannon fodder animal bombers aspire to be.

  8. Camels, yaks and chickens are all S tier imo. Chickens breed insanely fast and are basically an infinite food/ money glitch. Eggs and chicken meat for days. Camels and yaks are both pack animals that produce milk. Yaks also produce wool, while camels can be ridden to speed up your convoy. They can be out-produced by dedicated wool/ milk/ meat producing animals, but their dual purpose nature as pack animals/ mounts makes them much more versatile than cows or goats. Muffalos can't be milked or ridden, knocking them down a tier, but their high carrying capacity and wool production means I can't rate them lower than an A. Llamas are a B tier, they're great for small colonies with sparse food that can't support larger animals but still want a resource producing pack animal. Whether the limited cargo capacity is worth the wool compared to a donkey is up to you, but I consider it worthwhile.

  9. Emu War shoulda had flamethrowers, ya'know what is really effective at killing, flame, ya'know what throws flame, flamethrowers. Ya'know what's pretty flammable, feathers. It's only a war crime if it's used on people, right?

  11. Any game where a thrumbo self-tames for me launches the starship successfully, in vanilla they are just so far and beyond the strength of a single pawn that my single thrumbo will stand proud against waves of raiders taking all the melee and gunfire while my pawns stay back. Since thrumbo s heal quickly and can take a ton of damage, them soaking all the damage from pawns keeps them from getting scars and wounds that slow the colony down. Never successfully tamed one myself but when one is gifted to me then it is a good time.

  12. Two animals I always have in every colony are horses and mammoths. Horses because of the huge caravan speed bonus, and mammoths because they carry a TON of stuff and can survive arctic weather. I haven't played vanilla for years and since mammoths aren't in your list, I guess they must be a mod animal. If I had to stick to vanilla, I'd probably have to go with either elephants or muffalos. Elephants if I'm in a hot planet, muffalos if the winters get below -10C. (Last thing you want to see is a cold snap causing half your caravan to lose their toes to frostbite).

As for meat animals, the winners for me are turkeys and lacosdiles, since they are the only egg laying animals that give prime meat. But again this is heavily modded, I don't think there is such a thing as prime meat, or even lacosdiles in vanilla.

I'd say thrumbos are definitely A or S tier, yeah sure it's not really worth trying to tame one, but I'll definitely incapacitate them with a billion birdshot shotgun wounds, and then hope my medic tames it while patching it up. If you do end up taming one, it's a gigantic boon to the colony. If not, oh well, free medical xp at least.

I also had a megabadger self-tame in one of my colonies. That thing would rip through tribals! Wait, is that another modded animal?
