Range Rover broke down Spectacularly! – XJ40 (sorta) to the Rescue!

The supercharged Range Rover broke down spectacularly in cloud of steam! XJ40 to the rescue while we wait for some parts for the Range Rover. Hopefully it’s just the infamous coolant hose that goes under the supercharger.

  1. Nice video and nice XJ40! I've just changed the thermostat on mine today. I got omicron during christmas and about 2 weeks ago. Probably original and ba.2 versions. It was not fun! So sorry for your wife's health.

  2. Glad you are past the kooties and prayers lifting up for your wife. Ya know,I think I need to start a YouTube channel so I can have several cars available while my daily is being worked on. ("Hey, honey……")

  3. Adam:Gr8 diagnosis on Range Rover. Yes everything is expensive on one of these. It's not much better on the XJ40 either, at least the brakes are much easier to fix on these due to the outboard set up. It's gr8 that you can fix it yourself, that alone will save you a lot of money. The labor rates for repairs to these cars are astronomical. The going rate here in Toronto Canada is about CA$100-125/hr. So it's not cheap to get these cars repaired. Hope you and your wife will feel better soon. Have a gr8 God bless day.

  4. Wonderful you were able to diagnose the RR and hopefully be an easy fix. Since you will need to remove the supercharger to service the coolant hoses as I mentioned previously when you purchased the RR since the supercharger will be off please drain and refill the lubricant in it.

  5. I almost fell off my sofa when you said the price of hoses. Yeah nah. They can be replaced later. It's easy when awash with disposable money to spend other people's money for them but my philosophy is that there must be a balance with preventative maintenance. It's easy to blow lots of money for "peace of mind" on one or two things which haven't failed but could, then have something else go bang which definitely needs the money you just sunk on something which wasn't broken.

  6. Thank you for the video. You live in a nice place not like here where you can walk on people's heads. You are fortunate that you know how to repair all these problems ! Well done.

  7. Sorry to hear about your wife. I know how that can go as My wife has a long term health issue that can cause her severe joint pain too. I hope everything works out for her.
Why is the cost of the coolant pipe for the RR so high? Because. . . Range Rover! And I always lubricate the caliper pins, how can you not? Sounds a bit daft to me.

  8. Good to see the XJ40 getting some attention and use, but I think you missed a trick playing with the caliper. If you crack open the bleed nipple when pushing the pistons back in they will slide easier but more importantly you will expel the old overworked overheated brake fluid from inside the caliper and allow it to be replaced with fresher stuff, especially if you allow the flexi hose to drain a bit too under gravity. You won’t need to bleed the brakes, just top off the reservoir a little. Not important if you’re planning a full service, but an easy improvement that may even unstick the piston a bit more.

  9. I wish they would’ve brought the Daimler to the United States. According to Jaguar the Vanden plas is the same car but it is not. I have seen X308 Daimler in pictures and it is treated much better than the ones that they ship to this country under the Vanden Plas.
