  1. I sure hope enough people can afford to support the fresh tracks+ and keep randy filming. I can’t afford it at this time I wish I could cuz randy has helped me out as a hunter more than you know. Keep it up Randy Newberg!!!!

  2. Hey Randy, high angle shooting has the effect of shorting the shot distance. It has to do with the fact that gravity works on a linear bases and not true distance. Most range finders have a setting that will account for angle. There are also formulas to account for it, just look in some sniper manuals. With you shooting consistently high when the angle was steep I would bet this was the issue

  3. Congratulations Randy. I was honored to draw my Colorado goat tag when I was a 'young' 66, so I completely understand how you felt when you were finally able to close the deal. Special memories for sure. Thanks for sharing!!!

  4. On the third missed shot, at 29:40, you can clearly see the mark created by the bullet in the rock face above the billy. It appears to be at least 2 feet high (although the angle of the camera might be less than the angle through Randy's scope as I believe the cameraman was sitting above and behind Randy). At any rate the shot went way high. I'd be curious if Randy dialed the scope before the shot – and if that's a Leupold CDS dial like I think it is, what dial setting was used. Angle-compensated distance? It seems likely the scope was either dialed up too much or there's something wrong with that scope.

  5. Wear logging caulks and you will not have the slipping problems walking on steep ground. I’m out there all the time on ground that you cannot stand up with regular boots. Yours will thankyou

  6. What a great hunt!! I'm so glad everything worked out last year. We were so worried that you had missed the chance to hunt your goat. Congratulations to you and the whole team

  7. Thank you so much Randy for sharing your story of perseverance, dedication, and friendship and CONGRATULATIONS on putting a tag on Grubby!!

Would love to see the final product when you get him mounted.

  8. Was your laser rangefinder set up to take into account the angle? Shooting up or down hill shortens the range the bullet travels horizontally. It makes sense why all your shots were high. Great video. Glad you got your Goat.

  9. Congratulations Randy. You have an awesome support crew of friends who are willing to persist alongside you. They say that confidence and persistence are the means to hunting success and with an 18 year wait for a tag I would say that the latter is definitely a necessary evil.

  10. I’ve always passed on hiking up in that area, but it was fun seeing what it looks and how steep it really is. Great video and having those memories recorded is a gift. As I watching it, I got somewhat sad. Dad there in BZN has a mature Billy he took up in upper sage probably 20 yrs ago. The only hunt of his 88 yr old life where he agreed to hire a guide with horses.

Laid there up high for 5 hrs waiting for him to get off a cliff where he wouldn’t fall and break horns. A cold cold wait. Finally, he cleared and 1 290 yr shot killed him dead.

I got sad watching this wishing I would of been with him on that hunt or at least it was all recorded. As we spent our last few days in elk/wolf camp together this past fall, I know that’s the end of his hunting career and it sure would be nice to have that goat hunt on tape down the road.

I have 2 DIY AK Peninsula brown bear hunts of us on tape and a lot of elk memories recorded, but I wish I had his goat on tape to go with the beautiful shoulder mount.

  11. I shared a sheep hunt with my best friends 3 years ago and it was one of the best hunts of my life. Not because i killed the biggest ram on the mountain because i didn't, but the memories i made on the mountain meant more than anything. Congratulations on staying the course, it's not easy on a tag like that.

  12. Some things are earned and some are just meant to be. That goat was both! Love the team effort that was poured into this hunt, that in itself is a win and taking “Dirty Harry” is the icing!
