In this uncensored and raw interview, Randy O, the legendary lead singer of Sunset Strip icons Odin and Lost Boys, pulls back the curtain on his wild ride through the heart of 80s metal. As one of the stars of The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years, Randy O shares tales of debauchery, fame, and redemption. From rubbing shoulders with metal legends like W.A.S.P., Chris Holmes, Ratt, Warrant, Motley Crue, Steeler, and Poison, to his personal journey from the chaos of the L.A. metal scene to a life of family and peace on a farm in Tennessee.

Randy O talks candidly about his rise with Odin, joining the band after working at Builders Emporium, his experiences in the new Paramount Plus documentary Nothin’ But a Good Time, and addresses comments from Tuff’s Stevie Rachelle. This is a powerful story of resolve, reflection, and finding what truly matters in life while staying active in music creation today.

  1. Awsome chat! Chris Homes had a guitar sound that I sought after for many years. I still do not know how he did it. There is not very much info on the rig he had. I have heard that he liked to tune a little flat to add tension. Blackie hated that. I wish I could have seen W.A.S.P more back in the day. I only saw them once for the Electric Circus tour. Randy found piece with a farm life. That is what connected with me. Back to the earth taking care of animals and growing fruits and veg with my wife and kids.

  2. A couple of things-first off, it’s great to hear you full blast Brad. You have a great voice for doing a show. I could totally see you doing more interviews with other musicians.
And THANK YOU for saying what needs to be said about Stevie Rochelle’s comments on Nothing But A Good Time. Totally uncalled for and low. Randy deserves a public apology. Secondly, even though I never really was a huge Odin fan, but that part of The Metal Years showed a lot of heart and showed he was very dedicated to becoming a famous musician. As people like you have shown, the majority of the time, it’s all illusion and a facade. It’s great to see Randy doing so well. Thank you for this interview.

  3. I was fortunate, John Greenberg(Orange County) at the time was doing a lot of photography during that era. He would pick me up and our friend Dan in his 5.0 mustang and head to the strip. Met a lot of people, Had access. Shark Island was "ready" to break. Never really happened for them. Loved Spencer on guitar; worked for BC Rich. Good times as a teenager having that access. Obviously John Greenberg went on to A&R and Management for Atlantic records, I believe. Good stuff!

  4. Great interview! Randy-O and Odin kick ass! As a kid I was obsessed with the Decline film, and was fascinated with the bands trying to make it in that time – Odin, London, Seduce, etc. I haven't seen the Nothing But A Good Time documentary yet, but Stevie is probably just busting balls like his Metal Sludge site does. I doubt that it is personal or malicious. My band played a festival this summer with Tuff and Quiet Riot headlining, and Stevie was super cool and gracious. He invited me to hang with the band in their backstage trailer, and everyone in that camp was great to be around. They played great too. I can only speak on personal experience, and I will say Stevie Rachelle was 100% cool to me, and very fun to hang with.

  5. Most entertainers "borrow" from others. Iggy did Morrison, Dave Roth did Jim Dandy, Axle got a lot from Randy, Cherie Currie did Bowie etc. So what? Have fun and rock out. All the punk bands did Sex Pistols ha ha ( Me too!) I though I was Bill Bruford too ha haha. Good times. Leave Picasso at home! Get down tonight. Cheers.

  6. The first Odin – Don't Take No For an Answer was a classic Metal EP. What happened? Randy sounded like a totally different Vocalist from then on. Odin definitely changed for the worse, but was a decent Guns n Roses type band. Lost Boys was awful, one Jim Dandy Mangrum was more than enough. I got to say Randy had a skill for sounding like a totally different person on everything that I have heard ( and still own ) on each subsequent release of albums. I just think he needs to return to the style he did on Don't Take No For an Answer. The Sleeze Metal Sunset Strip scene already had way too many bands . The Epic Traditional Metal acts were rare those days. Just Dio , and Iron Maiden were available in the mainstream. Could have possibly been huge if they would have stuck with the Ep style.
