'Rajiv Gandhi cleaned up the wounds Indira left on Indian democracy, he deserves more credit'

‘India was a much better place under Rajiv Gandhi than it had been under Indira, and it would be a far better place today, had fate not intervened’, says author and columnist Vir Sanghvi, adding Rajiv Gandhi does not get the credit he deserves. Watch ThePrint #SharpEdge

  1. When i hear analysts like vir sanghvi having the popularity to voice their opinion, it makes me so happy that today’s india is different. If Vir Sanghvi was to come up in today’s scenario, with his lack of critical thinking OR any idea about triangulation, he wouldnt have found a job just because he has a vocabulary. That in todays india, intellectual honesty or incompetence is not appreciated with the opening up of newsrooms to tier 2 city people. Thats why we have gems like Palki Sharma have prospered. There’sa reason he’s never been able to present an objective report but comes up with insanely sub standard editorials

  2. In our history of PMs, Rajiv Gandhi is easily fighting for the worst PM we’ve ever had. Most of the divisions/social strife we have in our society go back to his rule: sikh riots happened under his watch/instruction, kashmir insurgency started in his watch in 80s, LTTE problem exacerbated and terribly mismanaged, tamil separatism, babri masjid was his brainchild, later adopted by advani. Indira had her flaws and made mistakes, but she at least won us a war by cozying up with ussr enough to not let US/UK involved. Rajiv Gandhi is the worst PM in the history of India, who caused strife internally, had no foreign policy of note, continuedthe stifled growth when the opportunity for India to start China like growth was at its peak. Fuck outta here Vir Sanhgvi. 80s was not just a lost decade in terms of growth but we declined in social harmony respect too

  3. And what is wrong with performing a havan at your residence if you are the prime minister? I can understand if it were in his office, that would be a no-no! This secularism at the cost of Hinduism, this false binary is what is awakening more and more Hindus.

Do you believe that if Hazrat Owaisi were to one day become the Chief Minister of Telangana, he would not offer his namaz in his office and with all the Muslim Karyakartas?

  4. I say this as a SIKH: What an ABSOLUTE BASTARD YOU ARE VIR SANGHVI. All 6 of you – You, Shekhar Gupta, Barkha Dutt, Mani Shankar Iyer, Puneet Saini and Rahul Gandhi. Denying PLANNED, WELL DOCUMENTED, WELL EVIDENCED GENOCIDE of Sikhs in Delhi and fake encounters of 25000 Sikh Civilians in Punjab near Beas River and Durgiana Temple – BOTH. DURING. RAJIV'S. RULE.

25000 Sikh civilians killed and burnt without dignity 2-3 at a time IN THE SAME FUNERAL PYRE.
The most dastard planned and targeted attacks on Sikhs under Rajiv.

WHAT. ABSOLUTE. BASTARDS. All 6 of you.

RAJIV WAS A TERRORIST. And nothing less.

And the 6 of you, your denial and cover ups at Rahul and Rajiv Gandhi's behest is the reason Sikhs are still languishing for justice. You complicit bastards repeatedly give Rajiv Gandhi a platform? A terrorist.

Have any of the 6 of you, especially Barkha, de-platformed anyone defending Rajiv's actions? No.
In fact, you're the one's obstructing any amount of closure for Sikhs for 4 fucking decades now.

The 6 of you deserve nothing but the worst and most brutal and torturous death penalty.

  5. Totally biased reporting. Not good for a journalist like you. What's the difference between you and Mani Shankar Aiyar? You're sounding as a spokesperson for Congress and more ao for Rajeev Gandhi. Problem with journalists like you is you have loat the ground reality. Wish you see some of the comments on Rajeev Gandhi.

  6. Why is this man batting for a man who in his own words  @ 4:30 "ligitimised dynasty by promoting her motorman son who had no political experience and not a lot of common sense"? And then he continues Rajiv left the civil services on its own as it wanted and the Supreme Court was left to do as it wanted and help came from Dhawan for political manipulation. And then he makes a case for restoring institutions.  He continues with a list of his other accomplishments while ignoring his many follies and scams which the country paid heavily for.

So, in the garb of making him larger than he was, is Vir making a case for another dynasty man with not much political experience and not a lot of common sense either, and let me add zero administrative experience. After all, he thinks, an inexperienced prime minister with not a lot of common sense isn't a bad thing after all.

    Nudge 🥹 Nudge 🥹 Wink 😉 Wink 😉

  7. MR.Sanghvi, Rajeev Gandhi doesn't need promotion…and by the way where is Mr. Manishankar…not seen for long time…Is he not willing to contribute to nation's well being any more. He knows that out of sight is out of Mind.

  8. For news company asking for paid subscription, we need better content . Mom was a power hungry bad cop, son good cop is a very shitty and useless analysis. For a person who argued that society shouldn't look backwards , sadly this episode is just that.

  9. You didn't even mention Bofors, Kashmir, Bhopal, or even him beginning his Ram Rajya campaign in Ayodhya. Because of some inexplicable "secularism" that you hold so dear, we must venerate Rajiv. Yeah right. And then dissing on PVNR. How dare you

  10. Why babri maszid was demolished? Because of the appeasement politics played by Rajiv Gandhi in the case of Shah Bano. And later the same Rajiv Gandhi opened the lock of gate for Hindus to do pujas inside.

Aisa hota to waisa hota, waisa hota to Aisa hota…..ye sara kuch bas bakchodi hain. Tum bas bolo ki main Rajiv Gandhi ka stooge hu.

  11. India (the nation, not the so-called alliance) has moved ahead and it is in the 2023 but journalists like Vir Singhvi are still stuck up in the bad old MID 1980s. It was before the Bofors scam broke out and Rajiv was lionised by the press and idolised by the public. I remember a new wave of optimism had swept across the country after the December 1984 elections and there were high expectations from Rajiv, but contrary to Mr Sanghvi's gushing admiration be was no better than a sub-average prime minister, with some pluses but many more heavy minuses.

  12. Script seems to have been written by mani. Shanker Iyer. Convenient to omit that capt.Satish Sharma played same role as RK Dhawan did in mrs Gandhi s time. Big corruption on bofors and escape of quarttorochi still in minds of people.
