Qatar: Between tradition and modernity | DW Documentary

On the surface, Qatar is a dazzling and colorful Arab country, home to sheikhs and big business. But migrant workers without Qatari citizenship make up nearly 90% of Qatarโ€™s total population โ€“ the highest such rate in the world.

Anyone traveling to Qatar arrives with plenty of prejudices: that it is a corrupt, filthy-rich emirate full of forced laborers who have no rights; that it is home to businessmen whose practices are, at best, questionable. But for the Qataris themselves, and the millions of guest workers from all over the world who live there, the picture is more nuanced. Yes, Qatar is a dictatorship with an emir who enjoys almost unlimited power. But at the same time, Qatar is remarkably open and progressive. The emirate is tiny, and yet tremendously fascinating โ€“ with its vast desert landscapes, its bizarrely-shaped mountains and its picturesque sandy beaches.

  7. Why did you have to film a guy's bare feet? Is it for our education or entertainment? To demean a human being? Will people's random bare feet be filmed if say, this was a documentary on London, for example?

  8. It is noting extraordinary or unique about UAE. In old days, The western upper classes or Royal family or kings and nobles used the African or working class used to make the country to developed. Slavery, Colonization, and even now the super power mulitnational company owners do the same things in western country which Ethics, democracy, justice is preaching the world every day. So what is the difference with UAE? NOTING AT ALL!!!
Is just DE making this propounds to paint a wrong pictures for short memory YouTube watcher or laid person who never read HISTORY at schools or self study.
This program only serve PROPOGANDA more than any things. Thanks for social media and Google, citizens are now more and more self educated instead like old days spoon feed of PROPOGANDA & INDOCTRINATED.
Keep study deep than take it in from what you see or read only from surface levels.
