Have mostly read about Georgia on-line after following Natasha & Dari Step You-Tubers there. I wondered why Russia would allow so many Russian people to detect there. I was aware that a new pipeline runs from Ababazan (I am trying to spell it phonetically and I am doing a bad job) through Georgia and then to the Black Sea to a tanker port. This is mostly a Western European project to cut their oil dependence from Russia. My worry is that after Russia stops focusing on Ukraine, then they will start focusing on Georgia to deal with this new economic competition and that people like Natasha & Dari will then may find themselves in jail.

There is a possibility that the oligarch in Georgia is trying to cut is his own deal with Western Europe & then break off from Russia but this is not going to do well with Moscow or for the good of the citizens of Georgia. It is going to leave him as the dictator of Georgia regardless of whether Russia disappears or not. The end goal for Western Europe is to extend that pipeline through Turkey and Greece to not only get the oil economically but cement these two politically loose cannon countries into NATO. The pipeline could also be expanded Eastward into the Central Asian oil fields and the new countries there. Putin needs to learn Western economics and how to politically use his economic power to keep the Russian Federation together and to expand Russian influence. Using your military to do this is counter-productive to human self-interest ( human natute) but has also become unacceptable in the world community.
A very important element of the success of the Georgia protesters, which you didn´t talk about, is the EU perspective. Majority of Georgian people, including elements in the government, want to join the EU.This gave the opposition as well as the EU the lever to dissuade thegovenrment from this law. This EU perspective wasalso the ferment that made Euromaidan in Kiew possible.

I've been to Georgia and the food, wine and the scenery are just amazing. Tbilisi is now one of my favourite cities. It is clear from my journey around the country that the people are desperate to join the EU. There are lots of EU flags flying very prominently in Tbilisi. There is also a strong sense of independence. I remember seeing the protests in Tbilisi on the TV just before the Soviet Union fell. Gorbachev had sent in Russian/Soviet troops, and many were frightened there was going to be a bloodbath. But the people dispersed and thankfully there wasn't bloodshed. Georgia did though achieve its independence. If you visit the national museum in Tbilisi there is a good section about the war with Russia in 2008. The impact of the war is still being felt today with around 20 per cent of the country effectively occupied by Russia. The influx of Russians since February 2022 is making many Georgians nervous, as Russian speaking minorities in countries is frequently used by the Kremlin as an excuse to invade. Russians who are living there need to be sensitive to that and about the impact of the war. I agree I do not think the foreign agent law has gone away for good. Georgians need to keep their wits about them and eyes open. I hope I get to visit the country again soon from the UK. It is indeed a special place.
It is hard to believe that the largest country in the world, multi ethnic and apparently openly racist is not an empire. Unfortunately I don't think Russia can afford to disarm when she shares a border with China and occupies land that was formerly occupied by China. Having seen footage of interviews of Russians regarding Putler and the war, mobics protesting the lack of resources to kill 'Khokhols' rather than against the war, photographs of what houses look like after Russians have left, not to mention the state of towns once Russians arrive, it is hard to deny that most Russians are orcs. Sorry to say that, but most Russians appear to have the government they want and deserve, and show no sign of feeling oppressed by anyone, unless it is by the rest of humanity. My feelings towards Russians have hardened, but of course I know that there are millions of exceptions and take no joy in hurting you or the other Russian bloggers I subscribe to.
Remember, your memories will become more FANTASTIC as you age. Life marches on.

All the Russian people with genes for defiance and rebelliousness have been selected out over the past 100 years and killed off during successive dictators' purges. Today's Russians are very obedient, passive and don't want to rock the boat.

I was a drug detective at the time in Missouri. I had charges on a guy and was using him as an informant and he called me.
“The fucking Russians are in Georgia!” He said .. now this is a very rural area and he was living pretty far back.
“really?” I said.
“Yeah turn on the Tv!” He said.
“I haven’t heard!” I was trying not to laugh.
“I am taking my people into the woods. I have a place. Get your boys and meet me!”
“I can’t.” I said, “when the Russians get past Arkansas I expect I will have to meet them at the border.”
There was quiet for a second then he said, “ well bring me your boys and I will take care of them..”
I told him it would be okay and he told me good luck.
I hung up the phone and was laughing.
I told my partner that the “idiot” thought that Russia had invaded America..
I told him the story..
He didn’t laugh, “you have him facing 10 or 15 years in prison and he called you to save you and your boys. When you told him you couldn’t go he was offering to take care of your boys and raise them if you got killed..”
He never saw the inside of a court room on the charges I had against him…
I’m betting that many of the protesters in Georgia are undoubtedly Russia citizens who fled…they are protesting because they can without being jailed

To start, I must say my times traveling (for military) the best part was meeting the different people and the FOOD. I am not very socially active but that didn't matter and I learned to steer away from big chain tourist trap restaurants and find the hidden gems. I am aware of Georgia but like most of the other counties in that part of the world, it has been in the shadow of others like Russia, China, or Turkey and India who get all the attention. History lessons like this give an insight to current attitudes of a region. Thanks again.

Georgia in Bulgarian is Грузия (Gruzia)… they even sound completely different lol i dont know why but it's what it's. Im curious if in other parts of the world they call it different.
To me it looks like Georgian society as a whole has a different focus or aim than Russian society. Georgians want to be European. This in the sense of adhering to democratic principles, wanting a free and open society. They have a lighthouse, the EU. You can see it when they display the European flag, Ukranians by the way have the same lighthouse, Russians do not. This means that the country might be poor, suffer from a less than perfect democracy, suffer corruption, oligarchy etc etc but…and its a big but…they want better and that better is becoming full members of the European project (that might suffer from many of the same issues but has higher aims).
I say this looking back to my own country, a dictatorship for more than half the century that was also helped ideologicaly by Europe and the desire to become fully pledged Europeans.

As a Georgian history told about Russian Georgian relationship is a lie (maybe that's how they teach in Russian schools). Moreover its offending. Nobody asked joining Russia. Russia occupied Georgia and killed many people. The process took 60 years to occupy Georgia fully in 19th century. In 1918 Georgia declared independence and in 1921 it was again occupied by Russia and forced into USSR.
