Professor Ronnie Newman is an award winning Harvard University trained researcher, educator and published author in the field of Mind/Body Medicine and Anti-Aging.
While at Harvard her team’s pioneering research in the early 80’s shattered the existing paradigm of inevitable mental decline with aging, and demonstrated that mind/body practices such as meditation could both reverse age related mental decline and increase the length and quality of life. She then went on to document and champion the profound health and anti-aging benefits of time honored Yogic breathing techniques.
The Yogic Science of Breath is a more than 5,000 year old precise science of health promotion and perhaps the first science to recognize the interconnectedness of mind, body, emotions and spirit and its importance in the restoration and maintenance of optimal health. Ronnie is the Founding Director of Research and Health promotion for the Art of Living Foundation which teaches ancient yogic breathing techniques that have been adapted to modern times by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and is a non-profit educational and humanitarian United Nations N.G.O active in 150 countries
Ronnie has spoken internationally on the documented health and wellness benefits of meditation and breathing practices on five continents and to international organizations including the United Nations, The World Bank, and in the USA to the National Institutes of Mental Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and to multiple medical and nursing schools.
Ronnie is also Faculty at Nova Southeastern University’s Lifelong Learning Institute in Florida, honorary faculty at Sri Sri University in India and is currently co-authoring a study at Stanford medical School investigating the use of specific Yogic Breathing practices to reduce stress and boost resilience in underserved communities.
