Interesting, the differences between the wives of the younger sons of the monarch. Edward took his time to make sure Sophie was right for him and right for the position she would hold. Sophie had a wee stumble early in their marriage, learned from it and has gone on to become a shining star in the crown of the royal family (quite taking her lead from Anne in the hard work department). She doesn't seek the spotlight for herself but for the charity she is working for. Watching her actively listening to others and responding empathetically reminds me of Katherine, it's no wonder the two of them get on so well. As an American, I can see the value the royal family and its traditions have for the UK and the Commonwealth, especially seeing the work of royals like Anne, Sophie and Edward, usually with no fanfare or media, just getting things done. Pity Harry didn't learn from Edward and his wife is the polar opposite of Sophie.

Of all the late QEll’s sons, I think Edward is the star. Sophie is a wonderful woman, wife, mother and royal, one the late queen was proud of. Just as Catherine is a gem in the next generation.

Thank you so much for this commentary. I’m always interested in hearing about Sophie because of her backstory. There is a part of her that reminds me of Princess Dianna, but in a more toned down way. Sophie would definitely make an excellent queen, just as Catherine will.
The Duchess is a real class act, so dignified, I feel she is just fabulous.
