PRIEST (Vampires, Totalitarian Theocracy + Ending) EXPLAINED

Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained. As requested, today we’re finally diving into the movie Priest, the 2011 action horror directed by Scott Stewart, based on the Korean Manga of the same name.

Starring Paul Bettany as the eponymous priest, Karl Urban, Maggie Q, Lily Collins, Cam Gigandet, Stephen Moyer and Christopher Plummer, we follow an alternate universe where Vampire and humans are at war.

The centuries old feud led to the establishment of elite warries known as Priests that enabled humanity to gain the edge over the superhuman monsters. When the niece of a veteran priest is abducted, he takes it upon himself to hunt her captors and bring her back to the light before it’s too late.

  1. When I first watched this movie I wasn’t a fan. To this day I’m not sure why I had such a bad impression of it. Years later watching it again i like it. It’s a different take on the old human vs. vampire lore. That said, one plot hole that still has me irked is why put vampires on reservations? Just finish the job. Another thing that irks me is why isn’t there a sequel yet? Lol.

Also, Paul and Karl are legendary actors that deserve more credit for their performances.

  2. critics did the movie dirty, it was a REALLY good film! well casted, directed and acted, screenplay was brilliant, set pieces perfectly matched the environment, the tone was a perfect combination of dark, horror and somber,
    wish they did a sequel

  3. I always got a pretty big Warhammer vibe from this movie. The walled cities reminded me of Hive cities and they give off the feel of some backwater "civilized" world in the Imperium or just one that hasn't been rediscovered yet. The vampires could be the native xenos inhabitants of the planet and have been fighting the human colonists for thousands of years. The superhuman priests could be explained away as the result of gene enhancement tech, which does exist in WH40K. Even the timeline of the humans fighting the vampires since the dark ages can be explained with the Age of Strife, as many human worlds regressed technologically and had to start over. Same can be true on this world. This whole scenario has played out a hundred times already all over the Imperium. This could be just another forgotten human colony awaiting assimilation into the Imperium.

  4. "based on the book" = they took the name……..THAT IT. it a even worse adaptation than Dragon Ball Z on this regard. it kept NOTHING of the book.

what could have been a epic horror western turned into another forgettable B movie

  5. Is this movie a good movie? No. It's a great movie. Vampires done so different (at least until someone does the 'American Vampire" movie based off the graphic novel series), lots of post Matrix high end fight and set pieces, and the CAST! Big names, people who would become big names, the works!

And the idea that "Human Vampire" is the twist, and to this world this is the first time anyone has ever seen it is a chef's kiss; You just wanted a sequel with someone like Milla Jovovich to play the first Human Vampire Queen!

  6. They should have made a sequel it was all set up for a series. However we that love do not go to movies to watch them. We buy the DVD and stream. That’s not how they gauge how a movie does.

  7. I remember watching this so so so long ago. I really miss the time when hollywood actually made passion-driven movies instead of a soulless husk adaptations and too many jokes in one movie.
