  1. I gotta say varric's proper introduction were he catches the thief who tried to rob Hawke and introduces himself is always a highlight. And no its not because he also is narrating the story of the game, although that also would be a good choice for his character, as it establishes him as a storyteller, and also dropped some huge lore bombs with him revealing the circles and Templars aren't in the chantry anymore and gets you hooked into the game with that in mind, as now you wonder 'how the heck did this happen?'. When I played the first time, I was blown away with that reveal, and wanted to keep playing just to hear Varric talk, like how he got Cassandra to listen to his story, he got people to play the game to the end to hear his tale. That's good character writing right there.

  2. When you do a dragon age tabletop rpg campaign instead of dungeons and dragons you should instead put it in pathfinder wrath of the righteous and you should have nine presidents in it and the reason I said nine is because one of the mythic paths is called swarm that walks and that one eats all living beings and all nine presidents can each have one mythic path

  3. I will definitely have to go with iron bull. Able to be the best brother in battle, fellow dragon killer and by the time in trespasser giving a huge moment. Given how your actions effect him

  4. Vengeance is cringe, the Archdemon was one thing but this gets old fast. I get it's to make the content unique, but unique doesn't always equal good. I'm sure nothing is going to change though, more people probably like it so I'm out of luck. Just gonna have to deal with that trash character thinking he's better then Donny.

  5. For me, the most memorable introduction to me is actually Leliana in Origins. She doesn't have some big cinematic moment, she just talks with you and then jumps into the melee with Loghain's men when they pull up wanting the smoke.

  6. Hmm, if i had to pick one I'd have to give it to Morrigan, mainly cause when she is introduced she comes off as so mysterious, even mentioning how she has been watching you and the parties progress for a time, and not going to lie that made me want to learn even more about her, and also the way Claudia Black delivered all of her lines was just down right sexy, she is truly an example of peak voice acting in general.

  7. I always liked Vivienne's introduction in Inquisition; she will literally ice a guy for you from jump street just for talking trash. She also has a lot going on with her character; she's politically savvy, calculating, and ruthless when she needs to be which results in her climbing to the top of Orlesian politics. She is also pro Circle which I think adds to her depth as a nice juxtaposition to the average mage. Granted, she is in the 1% so it's not like she faces the same oppression as your common mage, but she sees the big picture ramifications and potential threat posed to society if mages are left to run amuck with no supervision.

If there is one robe wearer I could see Trump getting behind besides mommy Morrigan, I could see it being Vivienne. As he would put it, you gotta respect the grindset.

  8. I love Zeveran’s introduction in origins. You meet him as he ambushed you and after you turn the tables on him, he turncoats to your side. Love a good ol scoundrel who sees the way the winds blow.

  9. Yeah, first time playing i missed Isobella. And that made game practically unbeatable for me then, cause of bossfight, which she can make into duel. I don`t remember how many times i had to reload to win that fight with sheer luck.

  10. Favourite is probably Alistair’s introduction. It’s just a great showcase of Alistair’s personality and it’s some actual levity at a point in the story where you’ve just finished your Origin and therefore probably could really use the emotional pick-me-up.

  11. My favorite companion introduction is definitely Dorian. The mage side to the first part of Inquisition is a fun way of introducing time travel to Dragon Age in a way that makes sense. Dorian's introduction adds a little more intrigue on top of intrigue that the Mage path starts out with. Plus Dorian represents an entire side to Tevinter that is never shown and was needed to not make Tevinter just an entire nation of slavers.

  12. This was a difficult one. But, the one that sticks with me the most is Anders from Awakening.

Its short but I believe it makes a perfect introduction to such a sarcastic character. The fact he's just there burning dudes, then turns around and says "Uh… I didn't do it" is such a great way to show what personality Anders' has. It also makes me think about how much the events of Awakening and Justice/Vengence changed him when you meet him in Dragon Age 2.

There was another one but I wasn't sure if it would count, and thats Oghren's intro in Awakening as well. If you transfer your save from DAO, when he turns around to wave at you then continue to fight just fills me with so much joy. Even after all these years.

  13. As far as intros go, I have two favorites:
    1. Oghren in Awakening — just casually waving his hand, cleaving through darkspawn, no big deal, wants to join the club etc. I like his nonchalant dialogue in Awakening, and the intro underscores that. It's also good that they managed to give him quite a fascinating personal quest (in terms of moral growth, that is).
    2. Shale in Origins — chicken stomp :3 Also, an uncontested amount of sass :3

If I were to mention other games, however (since this post is uncharacteristically short for my standards):
In DA2 it's Sebastian, for one reason only — because he's the best at falling flat as a character. There's this huge buildup in his intro, after which you get a wet blanket. I don't really like the intros of other characters, to be honest. They are too cinematic, e.g. it's easy to understand that writers set up these intros to be the way they are in order to show us, how interesting the characters might be, and I find that jarring as hell.
In Inquisition it's probably Sera, for the whole "breeches" joke. I guess she is the most laid back character, and not in a silly way — as we later learn that she has her own internal struggles as well. The best thing about her intro is that she's, in my opinion, probably the most sincerely portrayed character, and the least blowhard among the DA:I cast. Honorable mention goes to Josephine, she's always portrayed as a busybody, and it creates an image of her as the one, who actually does a lot of work for the Inquisition's image. Leliana just seems too vengeful, and Cullen — too busy toting his boa scarf, but that's, of course, my opinion 🙂

  14. Favorite introduction has gotta go to Morrigan, Claudia absolutely knocked it out of the park with the voice acting and you could just tell from the characters demenor that this was going to be someone important to the story, both with presence and design its an absolute top tier introduction.

  15. Also, just a side thought, I was playing Persona 5 recently for the first time, and that game would be something for this universe's presidents to enjoy (I can especially see Barack being an Akechi enjoyer :3)

  16. This question was a tough one. But I think my favorite party member introduction would have to be shales.
You get a chance to have your own golem after a random encounter with a merchant, but upon arrival you find the darkspawn horde beat you there.
After kicking their butts it turns out your control rod won’t work so you gotta save the survivors and deal with an imprisoned desire demon to find out why.
Once that’s done instead of an emotionless, obedient and mindless killing machine, you get a blunt and sassy, no nonsense, bird hating killing machine instead! ( a pleasant and much appreciated surprise!)
Whose mysterious origins tie into one of the major plot points of the game and the major lore/history of the dwarfs which was lost during the first blight. All for what was originally just supposed to be a dlc character! I just wish they had come back for future games like some other characters, even if just as a npc cameo.

  17. I would say my favourite introduction of a companion is Cole from Inquisition. Mainly because if you recruit the Templars (underrated choice imo), he can be seen in the crowd, hiding in plain sight, then he establishes an air of mystique around himself when saving the Herald from being possessed and after the mission he just casually shows up and asks to join and if you don't let him, he just makes you forget.
He is a great representation of what a phantom rogue should be and him being an assassin is a natural fit for his skillset, while being really ironic since his motivation is all about helping people.

  18. I have three favorite intros – can't really decide which one is better, because they all perfectly reflect the characters in general, and I really like that characters. And yes, two of them are waifus, so I'm biased here.

Morrigan – the cool intro. It's good that you meet her practically at the beginning, not that familiar to this world and not strong yet – it adds to the mystery. When I met her I thought she was going to be either a powerful enemy or a wise mentor.

Alistair and Sera – the funny intros that subvert expectations, although they have different types of humor. Duncan is a pretty serious guy, so I thought Alistair was similar to him, and then he started talking to prove me wrong. Same goes for Red Jenny – when I went to meet a supposed leader of this mysterious organization that I got only slight hints about, I wasn't at all expecting to meet someone like Sera.
