Today’s psalm verse from Psalm 148:1-2, 13 speaks about the psalmist who believed that all celestial beings and entities should offer praise to God. It was not just the God of Israel who deserved honor, as He was the God of all and therefore deserving of such praise from the highest places. This psalm urges all things in the sky to praise the LORD, with “From the heavens” referring to everything above the earth.
Indeed, even angelic beings continuously offer praise to God. This is the constant occupation of the living creatures that surround God’s throne. The company of faithful angels is like a great army, comprising all His hosts.
God deserves such praise from all things on earth because He alone is God. There is no other being that deserves the worship, honor, and praise that God deserves. His name alone is exalted.
The whole creation should praise God because He is the Creator and Sustainer of all. In addition, God blessed Israel by providing them with worthy leadership as His chosen people. All of these, along with everything else, should praise the name of the Lord because His name alone is excellent and worthy of praise. It is a name above every other name, and no other name or nature possesses all the excellency that His name does. His glory is above both the earth and the heavens, and all inhabitants of both should praise Him and acknowledge that His name is exalted far above all blessing and praise.
