One of the big stories from the past week focused on problems with packages in the hands of the United States Postage Service.
We’re talking package delays and packages customers believe are missing altogether.
“Well, it’s mismanagement upper management, and it all has to do with the 10-year plan of the Postmaster General, that’s driving us into a a hole that should have happened to begin with,” said Homer Hernandez, Branch President of Letter Carriers. “We could have, we could have managed it better.”
Our Yami Virgin started investigating the backlog of packages the U.S. Postal Service dealt with last year. In her exclusive reports this past week, she again asked leaders tough questions, after receiving new complaints from News 4 viewers about package delays this holiday season.
“So it’s a matter of not having enough employees. And why is that? I mean, one of the most dependable things has always been the Postal Service. So why are there not enough employees? In your opinion? Well, in my opinion, it shows that we’re not able and capable of doing our jobs and delivering the mail in a timely manner, and that’s a good way of trying to prioritize the Postal Service,” Hernandez said.
Letter carriers strongly believe inadequate staffing has lead to a host of problems within the postal service, which they believe could result in privatization. Which leads us to our unanswered questions this week:
Is there an effort to privatize the U.S. Postal Service?
Why are all of those packages still stacking up at distribution centers without even being scanned in?
Customers with tracking numbers report seeing no movement.
Why weren’t seasonal workers hired to help meet increased demand during the busy holiday season?
We will continue to work to get answers on this developing story and others. If you’re still missing packages that didn’t arrive on time for Christmas, you can email: [email protected]
