Pony Express Day 1: The Historic Heart of the Trail

We travel along the Pony Express trail stopping at all the Desert stations but also checking out all the secrets and interesting stops along the way that don’t show up in the official guide maps.

There was so much to see in Utah’s West Desert that most people think is a barren wasteland that I decided to stop halfway through for a little overnight camping. In this first day we focus mainly on the history of the trail and some of the big names that we’re integral to the Pony Express. Not the rich owners that may have bought it or funded it but the people who scouted the trail, suggested it be improved to be a part of the Overland Trail, and the interesting characters who were just workers maintaining the route for the one year it existed.

  1. I always enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing. Good use of the drone at the hot springs. Yes, those weed seeds are annoying, I seem to be pulling them out of socks for days…
